No handy dandy picture this time, sorry. You'll just have to picture this in your head.
This is a continent made up of 5-6 islands. These aren't regular islands though. They are sheer cliffs extending up to max ceiling height. The only way to access these islands is by assaulting a beachhead like area. Planes can fly thru the beachhead area, but no where else on the island. Each island is large enough for 2-3 bases. About the size of the island in the middle of essamir.
The beachhead area is basically a cave like area cut out of the cliffs. There is a roof so planes will have to fly low to get thru it. There are two beachheads per island. The beachheads are fairly wide areas, just not that tall. There are bunkers up from the landing area. These bunkers have 12mm chainguns in them.
Basically the idea is just to give you a different approach to a base and after that you would take the base like normal. It's not a shattering change, but it would be something different to see. Lattice links extend around to the different islands and you would kinda have to do an assault landing as you go. Maybe the central island can be bigger and you have to atleast take an outer island base and an inner island base before you can access the central base on the central island. Not really sure there, but it's pretty flexible.
Depending on if/when naval units are added you can change it around some. Set a base entrance on the outside of the cliff to permit naval units to cover it while galaxies drop on it and then move from the cliff side towards the middle. Naval units would definatly make this continent more fun. Have a vehicle carrier that can drive up to the beach and unload a tank or so. Cruisers that fire 75mm cannons. Aircraft carrier to provide a place for rearming and repairing of planes. Battleship armed with 100mm-150mm cannons but has a deep draft so it can't get in close.... used to fight other ships. Maybe a troop ship that has room for 4-5 deliverers. Load up the guys and move in close then drive out and onto the beach ready for action. Stuff like that.
