Moving to game discussion.
Im sure it will work on a 56k. Not sure how fun of an experience it will be tho

If you're computer is good your wasting it. You really need to upgrade to a faster connection or else it's pointless to even have a fast computer unless you do most of your stuff offline.

Im 56k to but I think since you pay for a server that will probably make it to where its nice and smooth so it wont suck if you have 56k:D

I wouldn't count on that. Even if you're paying for the server it won't make your connection like cable. It's probably going to be the same as any other game but maybe with less spikes depending on the stability of the server.

Yeah I doubt that, you still gotta hit that server. Do they not offer dsl or cable around you? If not try this, call all of your buddies who want it, and all of you call the local ISP, beg them to get a fatter pipe coming in. It worked for a buddy of mine, who lives way past bfe. It could work for you if you get enough people, those guys just like their money.
NAV, good luck

playing an FPS online..even if its an MMOFPS..isnt going to be very fun with a 56k. thats all there is to it.
Yeah but some people are stuck with it. I remember when my part of the town didn't have it yet, i was like "God dammit give me the 500m of cable and i'll set it up myself!!"

I'm still 56k, will be until the end of next summer. :) Takes more skill and gives you a good reason to taunt when you own somebody. :D I'm sure the game will be playable. I'm planning to command and/or play D anyway. :)

56k will probably be doable, but you'd be wanting to upgrade to a faster connection asap if you really like the game...
check if an ISP will run an ISDN line.. (max is ~21,000-22,000 feet, DSL is limited to ~15,000 or so)
other options..
Check if your ISP allows multiple dial-ins.... if they do, get a 2nd phone line & modem, and I'm sure theres a way to link me, i just never have done it ;-P
check with your local cable company....
DO NOT Get Satalite internet access.. minimum 'ping' time is 1,000 ms(3-5 times worse then a 56k)... only advantage is DL speed.. upload speeds still go through modem(ghay)

56k is a thing of the past,i think that 56k shouldn't be allowed to register in such a game, all it does is lag up the experiance,if this game becomes picture frame in big combat, like it used to in DaoC.i'll be extremely pissed off.

Hey Benji,
Look at it this way, wouldn't you rather have his money going to support the game, and both of you being happy, in exchange for maybe 3 glitch hops in a transport. YOu know how hard glitchy stuff is to shoot, he can fly me around!

oh yeah i know about the glitchy stuff from playing the halflife mods and boy theres nothing like emptying a clip in some one only to have them lag and do the matrix like moves and kill you as well

lol AHh I remember the non cable days. Those were some dark times. Connecting at 28.8 while trying to play Quake 2 online. I'd get excited about occasionally connecting to 31.2. I remember waiting summer after summer for cable getting screwed by the ping of my glorious 56k (which ran at about half of what it should). Ahhh brings a tear to my eye :( then I wake up and realize that cable owns 56k  GET CABLE OR DSL! NOW! NO EXCUSES! I don't want to hear this "not available in my area" crap. You make it available! :rawr:

Congratulations! You managed to completely mess up your use of the apostrophe!
As for 56k, it used to be ok a few years back but now it's getting worse and worse, and even though PS is meant to be "56k friendly", you won't have a good an experience as if you had cable. So get it as soon as you can :D
Your connection isn't the only thing though, you need to have a decent PC as well.

I tend to agree with you, however tell that to the damn industry. There are still a ton of areas where it is hard to get your hands on broadband.
Hell I have to live with a 144k/144k connection that costs me 100$/mo
