View Full Version : Tutorial: Macros

Well, I haven't seen this anywhere before, so I guess I'll make the first tutorial on making macros!
Now your first question is probably: What is a macro, anyway? Well, to answer that, a macro is a command or phrase that you put in a small icon on your hotbar (the little area that the implant icons appear on). For Half-Life/Counter-Strike veterans, macros are the PlanetSide equivalent of binding.
http://www.boomspeed.com/l337revolver/hotbar.jpg
(The "YES," "NO," ane "MAB" are macros)
Now, onto making them. The first thing you need to do is type "/macro." This tells PlanetSide that everything following this will be a macro. Next, add the name of the macro, followed by "\" The name does not appear in the phrase (if it's a phrase macro) or interferes with the command (if it's a command macro). The name simply identifies it on the hotbar, in case you forget which is which. After that, add a space and add the command or phrase. Here's an example:
/macro LFS\ /b LFS!
Now once you finish your macro, press enter. The macro icon will appear on screen under your mouse cursor as if you were dragging it around (which you are). Then, drag the icon to an open hotbar slot, and there you go. If you used the LFS macro I provided, then whenever you press its respective key, it'll do the following:
[Broadcast] <your name>: LFS!
That's just for a phrase macro. You can make command macros as well. For example:
/macro RCL\ /recall
Whenever you press that, it's the equivalent of pressing esc and selecting "Recall To Sanctuary" from the menu. Here are some of the commands I know, with a macro that includes them:
/recall - Recall to sanctuary
/macro RCL\ /recall
/quit - quit the game
/macro QUIT\ /quit
/accept - Accept an invitation to a squad, outfit, or voice conference
/macro YES\ /accept
/decline - Decline an invitation to a squad, outfit, or voice conference
/macro NO\ /decline
/suicide - Kills you; use it when stuck. (NOTE: this command doesn't work right now)
/macro DIE\ /suicide
Hope it helps!

Thank you. I've been wondering how to do this.:)

nice
Might as well share this one with you guys too. Instead of always going back to CC to check ToH just check CC once then type /alarm, you can set a timer that will simply count down time till hack.

seriously? I'm gonna try that!
Oh and thanks for the positive reviews. I'll put tuts to more little-known-yet-really-helpful things when I found out about them

Wohoo no more dinking around with my stopwatch, I did think it whould be nifty if they'd implement a timer in game at least for the guys on the squad that actualy did the hack a little countdown clock in their lower right, but there's bigger battles to be fought befor ei want this done.

The hack timer is a nice idea. Like press "use" (g by default, e for me--still suffering from HL withdrawl ;)) on the control console and the time appears in countdown mode somewhere on the screen. I think it'd be really helpful.

And your post would be?
Considering Dio has over 4,000 posts and you have less than 400, I think he could flame for quite a while before you could start to complain, % wise you're blowing him out of the water.

yeah... um, I'm gonna have to ask you to proofread your posts when complaining about someone else. If you could put an 'r' on the end of 'you' when you want to say 'your contributions' that would be great. Thanks.

I see... PSU has hit a level where post count means more then input. Good post. Feel free to point out how I'm blowing him out of the water in complaints. Although I know that won't happen.

Grow up, kid. Spelling mistakes happen. I, unlike some other posters, at least make an attempt to spell correctly, but mistakes get through. Don't see what your problem is.

Here's another great one. Mr Superority? Hardly. I was simply stating that I didn't know it, and I'm willing to bet a lot of others don't, either. So regardless of wether or not you were kidding, the post dosen't make much sense.
Go back to the official forums? Seems you're running out of material. I've been here a good chunk of time, so I'd suggest you rephrase, because that dosen't make much sense either. A little touchy for ONE objection.
And I'm refering to your generally whiny posts regarding that complaints towards SOE / Reavers / PS in general. Sorry if I misinterperated your quote. Lmao.

I dont recall telling anyone how old I am. Perhaps you are simply imagining me as a personification of yourself, and therefore assume I must be a child as well?
...regarding that complaints towards...
Well, that's hardly a spelling mistake.
now please refer to your original post. How exactly is this the good input you preach about?
BTW, dont mean to take this so off track. Very nice work on those macros. Is there any way to bind them to a specific key (say I have f1-f3 for implants/medpacks and I want macros to take up f6-f8, leaving the 2 empty spaces in between?).
Yea Taow, when you type in the macro in the chat window and hit enter the macro bubble will appear on the mouse cursor, then you just simply click on the box you want it in. :)

Dunno, might be possible but you would have to mail the dev team to find out. Or make sure Hamma asks that question to Dave on AGN interview. :p
Just in case anybody uses my /alarm tip you can set that to a macro. Type in "/macro (name) /alarm" and you can set it to one of the F keys, it's very useful, now all i have to do to check a ToH is hit F8. :D
