Don't feel dumb.
A grunt is a guy certified in weapons/reinforced primarily. I consider myself a grunt, but I also have engineering for field repairs. I guess it really depends on the person you ask, but what I believe is basically they are the guys that make up the bulk of any force. Remember that reinforced guy on foot with the cycler and anti-vehicle weapons? He was a grunt. :)

By my description a grunt was a guy in reinforced non MAX non pilot who was usualy the guy trying to figure out a new and inventive way to wind his enemies entrails on a stick, other certs are inconsequencial i was a grunt hacker and ams driver and i'd usualy make people aware.

I've been gaming referring to grunts as virtually anyone that isn't a CO - but admittedly it one does envisage infantry when using the term.

Haven't played the game (but i'll get it) a grunt is just a normal soldier. (In theory)

I think i am one becuase one char on every server i play one is going to get Certifications in all weapons and max's..
You'll need a lot of time on yours hands and almost no life to accomplish that. B
But good luck.

the grunt is basicly an infantryman, with basic weaponry, no frills.
hes the one who gets killed first and is considered the most expendable by his commanders. its sucks to be him but if i'd play ps i'd probably be him cause im used to its e.i quake/unreal.

What spongebob said.
I think the term grunt was a label dropped on the basic army soldier because they were probably looked down upon intellectually by other parts of armed forces; so they're "grunts," like neanderthals. This probably came from those in the engineering, air force pilots, and special forces who receive training above and beyond what the normal infantryman is unable to receive or train for due to what the higher ups would deem intellectually incapable.
So basic infantry are grunts. Seals, Rangers, Delta Force are not, even though they may be expected to be(or something).
This is all personal conjecture. I'm just talking nonsense :)

Grunts are the guys with the guns who go in blasting. They won't be special hacking guys or engineers or reaver pilots or cloakers. You need a guy with a gun to walk through the entrance, taking fire and doing damage - get a grunt.

Ok my idea of a grunt is a guy who goes primarily for reinforced and all weapons certs; the guy whose passion is killing, which is good since he can't do anything else. He'll walk into the battle in reinforced loaded with a Jackhammer and a Phoenix (NC).

im not a grunt, im more of an assault guy. I'll rush in with my lightning, blast whatever is in there, then ditch the lightning, and run inside and try to hack the CC. if im too late, then i just stay within the base and defend. (in courtyard)
or, i will clear out the perimeter for the other guys to make a big strike.
or, i will just fight on foot using a Rocklet Rifle, or Thumper.
my certs are:
medium assault
special assault
lightning
hacking (pending)
adv. hacking (pending
engy (pending)
combat engy (pending)
either reinforced armor, or Reaver, whichever i feel with help.
thats my order. after combat Engy, i'll have 4 certs left. depending on what my outfit needs, ill just play around with the certs.
