why do you need a regular microphone anyway?

I don't "Need" it. But this mic is cheap, and is an awesome mic. Much better sound quality than headsets etc...

I would also like to know if anyone has any suggestions. I am tired of being left out of intrigueing voice chat conversations. :D

EDIT: Also, do standalone mics work well in video game voice chat? Because i already have a nice speaker system for my computer, and if I have to wear a headphone and mic combo, it will block at least one ear.

I personally don't game without a stereo headset/mic combo. I have an ok speaker system, but I don't want to disturb anyone else who's in the house the same time I'm gaming.

Plantronics has some good quality boom mics/headsets for around $20.

I don't recommend getting a stand-alone mic. When you speak into it you'll be picking up backround noises. That could bring your comm factor down a couple of notches. Always go with headset/boom mic.

I don't mean to suggest a microsoft product, but in times of need, sometimes the devil holds theolny key. The Microsoft sidewinder gamevoice works very well, and has excelent sound quality (both imput, and output). It also comes with some nice features like voice recognition (wich I havent gotten to work with Planetside). It is also fairly cheap.

Here is an idea of what my mic setup is gonna be like.

See the gooseneck mic to Taxi's right? That's what my mic setup is gonna be. Easy to use and versatile. Not to mention the quality of the mic. And using a windscreen allows you to use voice activated on TS2
