Quadract recently interviewed PlanetSides Producer, Dave "SmokeJumper" Georgeson. Dave has been a really busy man as of lately and here is yet another one of his interviews. Here is a snip:

Quadract: What was the reason Sony spent money to produce a MMOFPS after seeing World War II Online not succeed its expectations?
Dave Georgeson:Just because something hasn't been done successfully doesn't mean it's impossible to do so. Such is the case with PlanetSide. Everyone realizes this is the kind of game that we've all wanted to play since Doom came around. It just takes someone with deep pockets and the willingness to hang it all out on an R&D project to make it happen. SOE is that sort of company.

What does the game offer to gamers who reach a high Battle Rank(BR) and Command Rank(CR)?

That would be telling. :)

One of the advantages of doing an MMO-style game is that we get to roll out features and upgrades on a continuous basis over the lifespan of the game. The "things that lie beyond BR20" are still under wraps, but we'll be announcing them soon.

Beyond BR20 and CR5:eek: !

During beta, I recognized repetitive base-capturing where battles mainly took place near buildings. Rarely did I see bridge battles or mountain struggles. Is there any plans to create a frontline of some sort to maintain a balance in land battles and base battles?

Yes.

Are there any plans to add sea battles?

Perhaps. ;)

Has planetside given thought to a mobile air base?

Yes.

Nice
Nice and
Whoa!

A Mobile air base. Scary.
