well.. if theres like i dunno a thousand people per continent, how the hell do you filter all the chatter? can you only hear your squad/outfit? its hard to put this into context but sometimes when playing CS or TFC in a 16 ppl server its CHATTY AS HELL. i can barely tell whats going on. so whats the deal with that?

Keep your eyes on the chat thingy. I'd like to be able to see what's everybody is saying. But that's just me.

perhaps, but theres going to be too many people to keep track of don't you think? will squad members or maybe people on a buddy list be in diff colors? haaammmaaaaa
maybe there will be different filters
1 for faction in the continent or area around u
1 for outfit
and the faction can be disabled if there is too much spam
realistically speaking u cant chat to 19283190283 people ::eek:

I would think that it would be multi-colored text, example: green for empire message....orange for teammates close by,etc.

umm
Well how does it work in EQ and other MMO games?
I would hope for multi-colored text for each type of msg. (general chat, outfit, squad, p2p,etc) and a set of filters easy changable a la NWN.

Okay...if you look at Hamma's screenshots, text is multi-colored, green being squad & red being GM. I'm sure that is how it will work!:)

Every MMO I've ever heard of has chat filtering...
Usually you get filters for global, group, immediate area, tells, shopping, ... in short, you can enable or disable every channel there is. I see no reason why PS wouldn't do the same.

They WILL have chat filtering systems. I heard it from somewhere but I'm exceedingly lazy. :p

The text is all color coded and you can do empire broadcasts, outfit chat, and squad chat (all diff colors) also private messages.
As for filtering, I dont know :p

Well I doubt they will set it so that any ole person can spam the entire world or continent. From what they have been telling us it seems like the only people with access to any kind of global chat will be high level commanders and even then you will probably be able to turn that channel off.
I'm sure they will make it configurable enough so that if you don't want to hear something you won't have to. Thats pretty much standard for MMOG's.

I bet it will like EQ =)
1 channel for the area around you
1 for the squad
1 for the outfit
1 continent specific perhaps?
1 empire boradcast for commanders
and i hope theres the ability to create your own channels... like channels you can invite people into for large raids made of several squads of diffierent outfits.
*Shrug* seems wise that they should learn from EQ, the chat system there is just great =)
