ok ive been waiting for this game for literally 2 years ever since i read a small preview in my next generation magazine ive been excited in fact the only other game that i get that excited over is the metal gear games. But now it seems all so disappointing the game has no real content just cap the bases and get into huge fights they add no new strategy to it or show any reason to defend bases. The only thing that keeps me from canceling my account is the thought of all the new features they want to put in my question though is when?if its six months from now im canceling my account im not gonna pay money for something that i find this repetive at this stage. im willing to give it time heck anyone who played everquest will tell you thsat the game is very different today than it was 5 years ago but i dont see how much fun this game could get i mean come on even if they put in the feature of protecting your bases more will have to be done to where each base features something. if i wanna cap bases or frag enemys i can just pop in day of defeat or battlefield 1942 and get the same effect minus the $13 a month charge

1) They add no strategy? Strategy's up to the players. Get a squad leader if you don't want the responsibility.
2) Defend the bases for the fun of it. It's a game. Kinda the point. If that's not for you, how about bragging rights, personal satisfaction, easier/faster kill BEP.
3) If it's getting repetitive, try something different. Switch your certs, change your priorities, something.
4) DoD and 1942 are hardly comparable to PS. Worth $13 a month more.

But, it's your opinion. Go ahead, your loss.

There is sooo much to do in PS, you just have to use your imagination.
Ever try an offensive infil that doesn't hack? try to get a lot of knife kills? There's a lot of strategy there.
The Phoenix, a fun gun, use it more of a pester gun on small groups not for assault. Fly it thru an enemy base but hit no one and just watch them panic. You can get amusing results out of it
Just remember, you don't have to play the game goals of ultimately capturing bases, but just have fun.
Sure it gets old capturing bases, but by going around and doing things different like those it makes the game a lot more fun.

but what if u were trying to kill a hacker at the cc if it hit boom there goes the reason to cap it.

thats right. Some of the funnest times I have had in PS I have accomplished very little. One time I spent the whole time as a combat engineer and sniper annoying the heck out of enemy troops trying to take towers. Just me, alone keeping lotsa enemys at bay with mines. They would slow down to deal with my mines and then I would snipe them. I didn't get much xp and they eventually capped the tower, but it was still fun. Another time I spent the whole time as a combat engineer and infiltrator going around in mainly freindly controlled continents and destroying base equipment just for the heck of it. Don't let the standard rule you, break out of the box and do your own thing. Trust me, there is enough diferent things to do that if you will be able to find something to entertain you.

:D
I love doing odd things, I find that escord duity (or hunting escorts) for ams's, or ants is very fun. Even taking my skeeter and hunting gals can be great.

I also got into a real front line fight 2 days ago.

Vanu and FC were meeting in this vally (tower and base behind both of us) so we didnt fight over a base, but over the vally.

It was an amayzing fight, lasted a couple hours before TR started coming in and forced us back to the base (they... came .... from ... behind.... :p )

Anyway, my point is, there are other things to do besides cap bases, even thoug that is the main thing you end up doing...

But, Mr. Vulcan, fighting over a meaningless valley is illogical. ;)

Capping happens, but if you only go to cap, you may get bored fast.

Oh god not another TekDragon like person...

Yes you can cap bases in other games but:

Ist completely different
Planetside has thousands of players on at once instead of a crappy 30v30 game
Totally different way of gaming

In those games I could change the course of the game, especially BF 1942, in CTF all you do is get in plane, pilot plane over enemy base, bail out, get flag, get enemy plane and drive out.

Simple, is it like that in PS? no

Other game can be turned around by one person and they last 30 minutes to an hour, PlanetSide requires proper teamwork and its never ending.

Still amused by people who look for some sort of life justification in a video game...

Guys the Devs arnt going to hold your hand and show you how to play. If you says theres no strategy, your in the wrong squad. If you say theres no reason to defend bases, then you are just focusing on capture exp and not gameplay.

Shit its a hell of alot of fun to delay enemies, ambush enemies, and generally battle over some with little to no importance. I spent 2 hrs fighting over a watchtower by a warpgate. Why? becuase there were alot of people there, and it was alot of fun.

Unfortunatly there are many gamers out there who are lazy as hell, they want their hands held :p

But anyway, I hope you reconsider. People here have already posted many good ideas. You just need to find a fun team to play with, and start thinking of new things to try. Get creative! :p

Every night the last 2-3 nights have been nothing but HOURS long fights over open fields between bases between TR and VS on emerald on Amerish. Just amazing HUGE ASS battles with bullets, lasers, and missles flying everywhere. It is consuming my life aeeeiiiiI!!

and this game doesnt have an auto balance next round thing, if ur outnumbered u better think on ur feet if u want to win. Some people just want mindless killing... go back to CS then! I still play CS when its time for mindless killn' or quick paced hoxxoring action but PS is the thing i go back to when i crouch too much and let them get countless head shots ;) I love You PS (just not in that way)!

Kudos to all of you stating variations on this theme. I learned this lesson in beta - sure, experience is nice, and everyone wants more certs - but don't let that make you a total slave to gaining BEP. There are SO many things you can do in the game if you just use a little creativity and focus more on fun than exp.

Capping bases is not the only aspect of the game, if you don't want it to. You can defend bases. While you don't get a lot of XP for it (aside from all the kills) it is fun. Especially when you have a good group of players all defending the same base.

We had a great battle last night against the NC (I play Vanu(. They attacked our base and we kept holding them off. They would get into the base, then we would push them back. We would jet over the walls and counter-attack and push them back to the tower. They would attack again and push us back to the base. This went back and forth many times.

My point is, that capping bases is a unique experience each time. Sometimes the battle rages indoors, sometimes outside the walls, and sometimes big battles happen in the towers.

some of the funnest solo/outside base capturing things ive done

-sniping on continents with very few to no friendlies (get that remote tower, get surge, and take advantage of battle chaos to rack up kills/target practice)
-driving magrider with a gunner on very few to no friendly continents (used to do this all time on cyssor, just drive into a tr/nc base fight gun blazing and run away to repair, gunner would setup 1 ams outside a no action base and we would respawn there, hack term, and go joyriding)
-sniping with the magrider (setup along hill ~200m from tower or base target, and hop into gunner seat and just light up the folks, 4x implant helps alot)
-NC phoenix, setting up roadblocks with a harasser (Basically make a newb char, vr up to 5certs, park harasser in bushes between nearest enemy frontline base and your frontline base..ambush anything that comes)
-TR reaver/max (probably easiest faction to play reaver)

while playing with an outfit is best for the long haul, alot of times i just want to goof off or see what i can do alone or with odds stacked against me.

Oh btw, if you have 1 squad and are ever looking for THE place to go...take Zotz on hossin (SE corner, sorry nc folks hehe). Drain the power, and defend it. Its gotta be the best defensible position on the continent. One road going in surrounded by steep hills/mtns. One tower near base. It was by far the funnest base defense/capture i have ever done. I did it 3 nights in a row once with my squad. You will get many NC sanct newbs first of all. Second its easily defensible. Its just damn fun holding off against 3 to 1 odds there hehe. Ambush anything that comes down that road, have AA capability to defend from investigative reavers/skeeters/galaxies. HOLD the tower! Try it out, its sooo fun.

Not when that valley's control will decide the fate of 4 bases in the area ;) Then it is logical. An area's meaning may not be in its function alone, but in its very stragitic value. :p
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What happened was that there were 2 towers facing eachother from opp sides of this vally, and a base behind each tower, so you had wave after wave of people/maxs from the tower, wave after wave of tanks/ams/reavers/etc from the bases all going twards the other side, we just kept meeting in the middle :p
