If u havent got a router u may still be able to check these ports with ur ISP they need to be open both out and in.

This solution solved my problem, so did playing direct through my modem rather than through the router.

1. Click on start, go to run and type "iexplore
http://192.168.1.1/filters.htm" in the address box, and click on OK.
This is the default internal IP address of your network, so if you have
changed it use the new one.

2. You will be prompted for a username and password. By default there is
no username and the password is admin.

3. Once you've gotten past the log in you should be on the filters tab.

4. Select the Forwarding tab then click on the Port Triggering button.

5. Once you've done this a new window will appear. Here is an example of
how to fill out the ports:

Application name: Planetside
Trigger port range: 1023 65535
Incoming port range: 1023 65535

Note this is for linksys router, but u get the idea make sure these ports arnt getting blocked, thats the problem, u lose connection then after awhile u will lock back to the server list.

The reasons are becoz of the below.........

Patch Application:
A TCP connection is initiated from the player's PC (using ports numbered
>1023) to patch.planetside.com, port 7000. There are multiple IP
addresses for the patch.planetside.com clusters, and they may change as
the network demands, so check often using a DNS lookup tool if you
provide a specific firewall rule for patching.

Planetside client:
UDP datagrams are sent to/from the player's PC (using ports numbered
>1023) from/to the Planetside servers (using ports numbered >1023).
Additionally, ICMP Unreachables (ICMP type 3) are sent to/from the
player's PC from/to the Planetside servers.

The Planetside server IP addresses are on the subnets:
64.37.148.* , 64.37.149.* , 64.37.150.* , 64.37.151.* , 64.37.156.* ,
64.37.157.* , 195.33.132.*, 195.33.108.*, 195.33.133.*, 199.108.1.*,
199.108.2*, 199.108.3.*

Please note that Planetside opens a random UDP data port from the
player's PC every time Planetside is run. Thus, the need to have all
ports >1023 available.

still lock back to server list

It might be m8.

If u got a router add the following open ports to the port forwarding section of ur router, as above the ports that need to be open are

Application name: Planetside

Trigger port range: 1023 65535
Incoming port range: 1023 65535

If u havent got a router, u can check these with ur ISP.......i didnt have the prob as often in the beta, but wasnt able to play the retail game untill i had these ports open.

If all else fails SOE email tech spprt is pretty good and they tend to get back to u on a daily basis with possible solutions.

U could also try disabling ur soundcard, reinstalling DX , then ur sound and vid driver to latest versions (uninstalling old ones first, then re run DX). Try it with the sound disabled and the game at lowest res etc...........

If u contact SOE they will need ur DXDIAG info, and MSINFO in txt files both can be run from DXDIAG at the command line.

To get dxdiag.txt juz click save all info on first dxdiag page, for msinfo click on more help > msinfo>file>export> save as msinfo.

Ok the main problem was that I had my comp setup on a wireless network -- since that just got really complicated -- i just disconnected the router and left the modem. This was my mistake. My comp was still setup as if it were still on the wireless network ( confused yet?). Anyhoo, to fix the problem I just uninstalled the modem and my ISP and reinstalled it -- this seemed to fix the problem.

Yes like i said the ports were prob blocked on the router, and as soon as u hook it back to the modem, its not a prob. If u can get the ports open on the router it will run on ur network.

Visit ur router manufactuers website and d/l the manual for it, look in ther FAQ for info on port triggering or port forwarding.

if u cant be bothered leave it as it is :p
