I joined up and on Nov 18 will head out to boot camp. My MOS is 'Scout Calvary' for the Army.

I read the job description and it seemed cool as shit. Required a high QT score, and is one of the most sought after MOS's for Ranger recruiting.

To start out I get trained in scouting on foot. Camoflauge, sniping, recon, long range anti-tank rocketry, and the preliminaries of laser spotting (for air/artillery strikes). I also get trained in light armor as a gunner for a bradley vehicle in a calvary unit. Most of my training will be joint-training with the Marine Corps (Hoo Rah!)

As I get promotions I move more towards command of light armor devisions.

Does anyone have any information on being scout calvary? Im talking to my recruiter next friday about it and im burning up with questions.

Also does anyone know how the stationing works for the Army? My job had the benifit of getting "station of choice" and I picked Europe. Once im done MOS training they send me to the 21st (i believe) in Germany. Once im there how does stationing work? Can I request a station? Are they assigned automatically? Is there any way to insure you get where you want to go?

Thanks :)

Should be rewritten as such:

Me: SIR! I'm dissapointed by the lack of content SIR! I've been here for 3 weeks and all I've fired is this M16 SIR! When the hell do I get to play with the Prowler or Lightning SIR?!

That would be sweet man. Id love to have his email adress. Not only to ask him about base life in Germany (specifically the girls ;) ) but also to ask him about tank command cause thats one of my job specifications once i hit NCO or take OCS.

Canada does have one. Being a Navy vet stationed with VP-93 we often did torp exercises with the canadian version of our P-3 Orion aircraft. Their AirCrews were given a pint of beer if they were out on station for more than 12 hours. We were very jealous of them.

"Uncle Red, shouldn't we at least call someone from the air force?"

"Harold, it's too late, he's already gone home!"

yeah, anyways, the canadian military does rock. i dunno if i'd be cut out for it, though

As a combet Vet, I remember how gung-ho I was when I volunteered for Ranger Duty.

I thought: how COOL...!!

It was cool right up until I realized that that the lump of goo that was once my closest buddy wasn't going to "respawn". I realized that combat is NOT a game.

It never dawned on me that the reason we send young kids (read: kids who's skulls have just barely hardened) into combat, is NOT because of strenght and stamina, blah blah blah...

But because they simply have no fucking clue, and are driven by their (imagined) balls rather than their brains.

Do I seem cynical ?? Let's see how "cool" you think it is when you actually get your ass in combat.

Let's see how cool you think it is when you realize that those "cool" military toys your so anxious to play ...are not toys.

Is there a reason to fight ..you bet. But, fucking newbs who come into your team thinking it's a game put the whole team at risk.

The one good thing about those kinds of morons is that their dead bodies mark the spot where the bad guys are waiting for the rest of us.

Good luck Rambo ...you're gonna need it.

Good luck man, don't get killed out there.

I personally would like to be in a SWAT team or a Rainbow Six sorta thing, although being a sniper would be awesome.

I have to agree i'd love to be SWAT. The whole idea of it is just awesome. I can't wait for the movie about said group, hopefully it will be damn cool and realistic. :D
