It's powered by the Torque engine? :eek: I knew it was designed for large scale battles, but I had no idea it was designed for massively multiplayer games. If they're just going to liscence an engine... meh.

As i recall, Torque Engine was used for Tribes. Thought it was for sale after they closed down Dynamix.

But $20 for beta, and nothing else paid ever? I'll be the first to call it Vaporware.

While I don�t see anything competing with the MMO aspect of Planetside, there are a few games coming out that might give you the play style feeling (mostly regarding being able to drive vehicles in a multiplayer environment).

A few that I�m aware of:

Breed, Halo PC, UT2004, Terminator3:War of Machines.

Though I wouldn't call any of them competiton in the strict sense of the word.

torque is an engine developed by garage games. you can license it for a hundred something dollars and pay no royalties until your earnings exceed $500,000 or something

Torque is the engine behind Tribes 2. They say that Torque 1.0 is Tribes 2 and the current version is more like 1.5. It is much improved. It's wonderfully stable and runs very well not just on various hardware but on various platforms including Mac and Linux.

As a game, he thinks it went well. As a gamer, I think it was poor. Undoing 3 years of maturing of the game to create a game that he could play was quite the bad move.
