View Full Version : Really cool or evil?

Taken from the latest Dev Interview:
Are you able to fly and drive vehicles without certification in the VR training area?
The VR Training areas are set up to specifically allow you to shoot weapons, drive vehicles, and experiment with equipment without having to have the required certification. You don't need the cert until you actually exit the VR Training areas. After that, you have to earn them to use them.

That has to be the coolest thing, and IMHO the cruelest thing the devs have done... give us the chance to play with all the toys.. then we have to wait to use em where it counts.. man, thats almost evil in its design!

I think they should go farther and let you test out the equipment from other empires too.

I think that would be going a bit overboard

It's the right thing to do.

Will you be able to get the certs ir at least a decent amount of BEPs in the VR area for trying out certain things?

why not? why shouldn't the VR be before you choose your empire so you can try all the weps =)
well other than that the devs hasn't made it that way hehe

hm.. i dunno - letting you choose any weapon in the game would be a nice bonus. but i dunno im sort of nervous about the stat system. it makes me feel like there's a ladder system much like in warcraft3 or somethign like that. i dislike having people see how good i am by looking at numbers especially when im first starting out.

Yeah, heh. Warcraft 3's system was stupid. I hate letting people see my stats like that. But I don't think they're doing anything like that in PS.

it gets progressively harder to "level up"

People worry way too much about levelling in this game. I really don't think it is going to matter so much how many certs someone has when it comes down to it. The more certs that the more people have, the more fun the game will be.
As far as testing all the factions in the sim before you go very far with your character will save a lot of people a lot of time and grief from selecting the wrong empire for their preferences.

You get to test out each empire? SWEET!

That was the sound of me wishing, Jinx. Somehow I feel that we won't get to try all three sides without resetting twice in the process (or trying them on 3 different servers). It won't be important to me anymore once they see the light about letting me in the beta :D

I say having this is gud (as opposed to bad). :D

i dunno.. they need to have votes on what people want in the game instead of just going by their own thing (the devs) i know i know it wouldnt go well but they need to know that we want to try out all the empire features and to subdue the whole stat system.

On the leveling up issue, Do you have to start from zero for each character you develope or do you have x ammount of experiance that you get over time that you use on each character? Like if you have 12 bep do you split that amoung each of 4 characters or does each character get 12 bep and you coustomize each char to what you want? Good question huh?
Some many question, so little time.

I'd assume you haev to level up ech character separately.
Each charector is independent. Ones BEPs are completly seperate from one of your other Chars.
That being said I don't think its that big a deal to be able to test with empire specific weapons. After all, if you have the certification for that class of weapon then you can steal any empires weapons and use them yourself, plus hold on to them in your locker for later use.
Personnally I'd prefer to not be able to even test a weapon inless you have the certification prior to it. assuming they are weapons you get after only after getting others first. This way it would add excitement more so when you are able to finnally try a high certification level weapon.

Before you choose a faction, you can go into the sim to try out all the factions stuff. I just don't remember were I read that.

Yeah, that would be cool to try all ~30 guns that way, and wait 1 week to get the cert points back! That would only take ~8 months!

Well this may sound simplistic and/or dumb but .... why don't you just not use the VR ? ;)

:stupid:
how could the current system be bad, you get an idea of where you are heading.... and it gives you something to work towards.

I certianly would like to test out all the weapons of each empire to see if I wanted to haul a captured weapon all the way back to my locker and save it for later use. In stead of finding out at a later time when you get the cert of that class of weapon to use it that it only sucks to your style of combat. Especially since that all the empire specific weapons have a different flavor of combat. ;) Or either you don't know what your getting yourself into by leveling up in an area of weaponry that you dont like then you just wasted your certs and have to spend more time earning more jsut to get something you do want.

I doubt the ability to store weapons in a locker is going to mean much. You only have the gun until you die. Probably be much easier to just go kill a few ppl and find a new one.
