I have:

AMD XP2800+.
1.5 gigs of ddr ram.
GeForce 4 ti4600.

Suddenly my framerate is going through the hole. It is becoming nigh impossible to hit anything, because everything stutters horribly :(

Is this a bug introduced in a patch, or is it something more sinister on my end? I have not installed anything new recently, just the performance has slowly degraded over the past few weeks...

By chance are you playing on Emerald during prime time?

Are you sure its not server lag?

If it is your side, not sure. I haven't seen any performance changes that were noticeable in the last patches. I am ATI though and not NV. But if there was anything serious I am sure it would have been brought up.

Maybe remove and reinstall det's. Maybe if you went to newer ones they aren't working as well as older ones for you. Could also be DX9 or something in your video properties changes.

you know what I heard? Planetside is an unfinished game. it's so unfinished that sony is shipping damaged discs and waiting to send customers new ones so they have time to fix the lag and crashes. My disc came damaged and i got the cyclic something error. It's under the know issues on the official planetside website. i know one other person who got a damaged disc and sony is taking FOREVER to send me a new disc.

That sux, but I would hardly call PS an unfinished game. No MMO is ever really Finished. If it ever is, then its dead and over with.

Bad cd's are bad cd's. They obviously didn't do a good job on manufacturing them. But that has nothing to do with the game. I played enough in beta to know it was more than ready for release when beta ended. Maybe the servers were not setup the best, and some other problems have come up. But thats what you get with these kinds of games. Its generally going to continue to improve though. So buy it now, buy it later, or never buy it. There are tons of ppl playing having fun right now though.

Did you order directly from Sony?? If not, why didn't you just take it back to the store and ask for a new disc??

It's not a case of bad files, the files in PS are scanned for errors and redownloaded if some are found.

Whats your ingame display options set to?

how bigs your swap file?

My bet on this is a fragmented files and long pathways to the files, i had the same problem.

Does it stutter all the time or just when something happens onscreen?

Need some more details here.
