Look folks, I am patient around here. I like a laid back moderating style where mods' are not always up everyones ass. I expect most people to fend for themselves by using our ignore features, or just telling the person to chill. This will continue to be mine, and the entire staff's moderating policy. However it has come to my attention that there are a bunch of people who want to abuse their posting abilities. I have handed out 4 bans this morning. Some of these users are not even new. Let this be a lesson to new users that we are not going to take any bull, just dont spam and we will get along just fine.

The game was just released, there is a HUGE influx of new traffic and users right now. Everyone must accept the fact it may be a bit noobish around here for a while. I refuse to close new registrations, or implement a GameFAQ's type policy. Then all I have created here has gone to waste because it then becomes the elitist community I do not want to be a part of.

So those of you who have been around for a while I ask to chill out, this time will pass. Things will calm down and the newbs will filter through, some will stay, others will go. Such is the life of an online community.

Ok so by the tone of your post i guess my new proposal will be shot down too but i'll give it a shot anyway.

Dio's Plan C : Create a new section called "Old timers" (or something like that) accesible only to people who where here pre-beta and a few peeps who got here after that but would be worthy.

I understand you want this to be a free forum with little to no moderation and all but do understand that some of us would like to be able to visit PSU without having to ignore 3 new guys a day.

Hamma
2003-06-10, 01:03 PM
That is the type of elitist community i dont want to be a part of. 3 a day is a bit extreme :p

io
2003-06-10, 01:15 PM
Heh, i knew you were gonna say that. :(

And 3 a day is an exageration but not by much, you aren't on as often as i am. I read 98% of every thread in the lounge and GD forums and trust me, there's a lot of n00bs out there.

Hamma
2003-06-10, 01:20 PM
I read every new thread whenever I come on to the forums. Everyones description of "noob" is different :p be patient. We would have been foolish not to see this coming before the game released. It hasnt even been a month yet, people will come and go. Like it or not we are all noobs in this infant community :p

io
2003-06-10, 01:27 PM
Yeah but there's a difference between newbs and n00bs.

Newbs is just a new guy, same like you or i was once before, n00bs is the fucktards who are making a lot of the good people leave or think of leaving. It isn't about elitism and shooting down any new guy who we don't know, it's about making sure the new guys are PSU material, not OF material who found it's way here, course lately PSU has been OF like so it can be hard to tell. :(

i would like to see ths happen. It would be nice to get away from all these new people asking, "Whats' a suppressor?"(exaggeration  )

It would kind of cool to be talking only with the smart people for a change

I'd like to share my thoughts on the subject real quick.

Hamma is right. I would love to talk to people who have been here a certain amount of time, but that is so elitist that it's not funny. I want to help Hamma make this a good place, with very little moderation. Closing threads is very rare around here, deletion is almost non-existant. Moving threads is not really moderation just putting the threads where they need to be.

This is the kind of community i like, it's why i stayed here in the first place. There was no eliticism like all other communities. You get the people who wont even talk to you if there a vet because they wanna be an elitist asshole. If you guys have noticed, i welcome every new forum member that i see post. I want to let them know, that even someone like me who has been here for 6 months is a nice guy and that we will welcome them with open arms.

Now, onto the situation of moderating. I think the amount of moderators we have now is ok, i would like to see one or two of the more active staff members get forum moderating so that things that need attention (misplaced threads) dont get cluttered around alot. It's just a matter of keeping on top of things in my mind, but i will leave that decision up to Hamma. He has to have been doing something right if there is nearly 5,000 forum members and a ban list of 4 people :p

Edit: My views on this subject do not reflect the views of other PSU Staff

Eh, I remember when I first joined the forums. No one would listen to me when I posted on certain subjects. It's all a matter of time I guess. But people spamming like mad do get on my nerves. :)

(Five bucks Hamma says something like no one listens to you even now)

As well as many many many others posts in valid threads that just suck, heck just hit search on Reaperofdeath27 and you'll see 3 out of 25 posts that are more than 1 liners. Even then they have 2 or 3 lines at the most.

I understand want Hamma wants but you can't have both, either you moderate a forum or it WILL become a shithole like the OF, we all know it (even Hamma posted a poll about it) PSU's quality has been on the decreasing side for a while now and it's just getting worse.

Anyway i'll shut up now cause either way what i think doesn't matter, this is Hamma's place and he runs the show, we just get to watch it, i hust hope that it stays as good as it always has been... :(

Dio, I hate to say this but you seem to beating a dead horse here. Hamma has said very clearly that he doesn't want an elite group to form or be recognized at all. You keep coming back, you even mentioned that you were okay with not having an elite group, but that you think some people just aren't "PSU material." Don't you think that's just reintroducing your idea of elitism?

Personally I've never ignored someone, but I have no problem scanning over spam to get to the real topics. I still feel really good about the forums.. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't come here. Why subject myself to pain?

Hamma

98% of the people in those threads you linked are temp banned.

As for private forums, and closing regs, and gamefaqs systems.. it isnt gonna happen on my watch. I would be the day I make my last post :p

I will ban and warn folks as needed. But in any influx of users, there are going to be idiots that need to be delt with. And they are delt with.

BTW i have to ask, what is OF anyway? And why bother having an elite group, just to stay away from n00bs? I agree with Hamma on this thing will eventually blow over. And yes their will be people who will skip through all the info and training and ask annoying questions, but just remember when we were in beta, there were alot of things we didnt know since the beta site lacked info and we had to figured out the hard way. These non beta people are just getting the easy way out and thats fine, make the Emiper ur in stronger faster. They ask a question? answer it, it will be 1 less question for all of us to answer. I can imagin ALOT of people asking the same thing over and over again. But in the long run, question will be answer from n00bs themselves to other n00bs, its like a rabit multiplying. So I dont really see the point for the "elite group" that ur calling it. Never been in one cuz i dont see the need for me to be in one.

BTW squeeky, waz the deal with ur sig changing constently, how many do u have 4 million? werid how i just noticed it :p

OF = Official forums

And again, my problem isn't the newbies it's the n00bs, people who just got here and flame everybody and/or spam and/or think they own the place. I do NOT have a problem with new guys asking questions.

And if you want those who where here pre-beta to be in some private forum then... OMG I've landed I must be 1337 w00t w00t :)

OFN = Old fucking news (kinda like this this debate  )

Anyway i didn't want to post here again but i kinda have no choice. What's "wrong" with this system is (and no offense to current staff) said bannings or warnings take to long, yeah Reaper and the other asshats were banned (or temp banned dunno which) but after how many spam posts?

The problem isn't that the asshats don't get delt with it's that by the time they do get delt with they already cause damage to the community.

Anyway hopefully this debate will die soon, as i said i(or anybody else for that matter) have no say in this, it's Hamma's place and he runs the show. I'm just trying to help this place get better, like i said we all (including Hamma) noticed this place getting worse with each passing n00b, i thought Unreg overreacted when he left but the way things are going i have no doubt he won't be the last to check out. :(
