I know this was impossible in PS1.
In PS2, will we be able to climb stuff: -Latch onto vehicles as they pass by -Climb trees for good positioning -Climb cliffs, rocks, whatever. -Have to clamber up onto a tank to get in the hatch? That would take the place of an animation. -Slide down things, such as hills, which we can do now. -Jump down on a passing vehicle and hold on. What do you do when you are in a tank with someone on the roof? He could shoot down on you with his AV, and blow himself up in the process, but weaken the tank. Using any AV while standing on top of anything that you are aiming at would have to kill you with the splash. I don't know how hard this all would be to code. |

I like that they are considering putting in a vehicle ignition delay where you get in instantly, but it takes a few seconds for the vehicle to activate.
That leaves some room if they decide it's worth their while to add animations later (which isn't likely, but possible). It wouldn't change the gameplay if people were already used to a delay between getting into vehicles and driving off in them. Then again, they are looking to streamline and speed up gameplay, but I don't think this would really hurt game speed too much. |

I have no desire to grab hold of a moving vehicle. Not sure what that ability would yield a player other than the inability to use that hand to hold a weapon, REK,.....
However, I do want the ability to climb. Make it a cert tree (yuk, yuk, on the pun). A Sniper should want to be able to climb - cliffs, trees, structures, debris,....also, an infiltrator with a targeting device could utilize advanced climbing abilities. What about a climbing cert that included Rapeling - dude actually packs ropes and other climbing gear to rapel dopwn a cliff, set up some cammo netting, wait for a base to fill, .....and then see how long he can kill before being detected - not like the enemy air couldn't come up tp a cliff face and fill him full of lead once his location is public. I'd like to see the Sniper Cert Tree include climbing, cammo, anti-radar detection, silencer technology,.... Last edited by Chaff; 2011-11-28 at 03:46 PM. |

Let's just suggest they take a page from Brink.
Infiltrators can: Wall run. Hop off a wall. Climb a ledge they can reach. Mantle waist high objects. Agile Combat Vest can: Climb a ledge they can reach. Mantle waist high objects. Reinforced Battle Armors can: Mantle waist high objects. But these aren't really necessary and are entirely excusable not to have, especially concerning mantling (we can just jump.) They're reasoning for not doing the entering/exiting animations is because they don't want to have to carve out interiors for their vehicles. For all intents and purposes, the character model is removed from the world and the player becomes the vehicle. |

Wall running may be a bit much for infiltrators, although it would be a lot of fun and potentially increase the number of out of the way paths that they could take to avoid detection. Aside from that, the rest of the stuff you mentioned I would really support and hope to see in PS2. Besides, being able to climb any ledge you can reach would actually allow players to get higher than any sort of halfway realistic jumping height would allow. It would also further differentiate the mobility of light armor versus heavy armor versus MAX armor, especially in the case of guys like medics who are not only in light armor, but don't have jump jets to boost them up high. I'm okay with having a small jump in addition to mantling, as long as it's vertical clearance is poor and it can't be spammed. As long as you can always climb over obstacles, the restrictions on jumping feel a lot less... restrictive. Considering how common this is in modern shooters, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see this in game. It's not quite as cool as a complete climbing system, but it would be just about as useful in 90% of the situations you'd need it for in a game like PS2.
