Figured I'd add my event ideas to this section and expand upon them a bit. These events would occur somewhat infrequently as to not take away from the core gameplay. They would instead offer a break from the usual territory capture system, while also adding an element of definitive victory and prestige for those who manage to pull off the mission. Teamwork would be required as each event should be set in a notoriously hazardous environment. (think of the way certain MMORPG raids are only possible with a very large and well coordinated group of players). Rewards would be access to extremely rare cosmetic upgrades.
Here are 2 Possible examples: Event #1: A large alien ship appears over the battlefield. This alien race has access to an extremely rare resource that can't be found on the planet. Each faction would then attempt to fight their way to the core of the ship and capture this resource before a set amount of time passes and the ship explodes. The interior of the ship would be randomly generated and maze like, so each attempt at completing the mission would require team work and new strategies to hunt down the core. Event #2: A vast system of underground tunnels and chambers are discovered, remnants of the Vanu race. Somewhere in the massive underground city factions would fight for yet another rare resource. The gimmick for this event would be collapsing passageways and booby traps. These events could in theory be 100% PvP, with the addition of certain specialized obstacles which would require large and diverse teams of players to overcome. Some examples of obstacles might be: * A massive door made from an alien alloy that requires a team of max's with AV weaponry to focus their firepower in order to remove effectively. * A health draining room filled with plasma that cannot be crossed without a team of medics constantly healing the squad. * An impassible computer controlled defense grid that would require a team of hackers to focus their efforts to shut down. Additionally, you could add certain PVE elements to increase the difficulty, alien mobs, large boss type creatures, etc. Last edited by CrystalViolet; 2011-07-20 at 08:21 PM. |

Well, PvE is not taken with ease by PS players but making "raid"-like events would be nice. Apart from that each side should have its own context for the matter.
For examole event #1 can be contexted as: Alien Invasion - TR. Resources are loot. Profitable Option - NC. Resources are goal. Elimination of (original) Vanu Renegades - Resources are stolen relics. |

I could also imagine something like at Christmas for a few days, randomly occurring attacks on our bases/towers etc from the mystical figure known only as... Santa, he has come to the planet to kill everyone (for a reason i can't think of without it sounding stupid), and has brought his entire elf army to fight us.
I think it would be something along the lines of elves with swords and bows, reindeer that carry 2 elves or have a trailer that carry 10 elves (These reindeer fly so they are the air vehicles.) And as their heavy hitting ground unit is a giant snow man/beast. This idea comes from 1 awesome episode of American Dad: For whom the sleigh bells toll. Here is a picture. |

Maybe in a future expansion, but from launch I think even a remote bit of PVE would just draw players away from the main gameplay.
Edit: though if it was possible to make special areas of the map have special goals would be quite fun, non captureable and over when goals have been met; but unique rewards. ( i apologize if that's what the OP meant in the first place>.< ) Last edited by Fanglord; 2012-05-24 at 02:26 PM. |

Not keen on the ship idea much I would rather have events that alter the landscape or shift gameplay for a time.
Reason I'm not keen on the ship idea is if aliens are showing up why don't we do something about it and why are they leaving abandoned ships in the atmosphere??? weather is enough for me |

Way too early for this kind of stuff. Anyway I'm pro-events just 1 or 2 years after the release when peeps get tired of main game not from the start. And no PvE, it would be a waste of HD space imo in this kind of game. Also there are a lot of cacti around for those who'll want to fight the environment.

There are two basic types of infrequent/unique events that I would like to see:
1. Continent wide gameplay affecting short-term events. These wouldn't mess with tje game itself yet would provides a new experience for the players and would most likely be various astronomic or weather occurrences. I.e. Electromagnetic storm over the continent XY disable all air traffic on it for few days. OR Meteor passing near the Auraxis causes total eclipse (pitch black environment) for few days. 2. Specific empire temporary bonus-yielding events usually related to discovery of lost Vanu technology. These would have to be announced to give everyone equal chances and placed in neutral/border territories. I.e. Vanu alloy of remarkable properties which promises cheaper tank production was discovered in the borderland outpost. First faction that manages to hold that outpost for cumulative total of 200 hours gets the 2 weeks 10% discount on all tank production. These kinds of events I would like to see and welcome, however spaced ship maze etc just seem out-of-place for me. |
