Here's a quick rundown of the most frequently asked questions...
(Full FAQ is in the works.) When is the public beta? Closed Beta will start on February, 22, for 50 people with exceptional computers and internet connections. This is because they will be downloading the game rather than getting CDs. They will be adding people rapidly, and CDs will be arriving, so check your mailboxes. What are the chances of open beta? Good chance. There will be another chance for the masses to sign up for massive open beta, at an as of now unannounced time. This is expected to be up to 10,000 people. What are the stages of Beta testing? Closed and Open. You must be selected for closed, however, you have another chance to apply for open at a later date, which many more people will be able to get into. Is there an age requirement? The NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) is a legally binding document; therefore, you must be at least 18 years of age. When are beta sign ups? Beta signups were for several days back in November, 2002. If you did not sign up then you have to wait for the sign ups for the open public beta. This date is not yet known. If I didnt sign up originally, can I sign up again later? Yes. When they are ready for Open Beta, they will begin accepting sign-ups. If I signed up for closed beta, do I have to sign up again for open? When you signed up originally, there were several options you could check, determining which beta you would like to participate in. If you are passed up for the first beta levels, you are automatically entered into the next. How do I sign up? When the time comes for Open Beta, there will most likely be a site on the official website. http://planetside.station.sony.com/ My computer has changed/I have moved, what do I do/my DxDiag is wrong? You can notify them at [email protected]i Or you can automatically do it here, however, you have to re agree to the NDA: To update you dxdiag automatically: http://planetside.station.sony.com/b...d_dxdiag.jhtml How will it be administered? Download, CD? The first few people will be downloading it (if youre reading this, its not you), and the rest will be receiving CDs in the mail. Most likely you will be notified by email of your beta acceptance, you will then place an order and they will be mailed out to you. How many CDs will PS be? The finished game is expected to be about 3 CDs. What is beta going to be like? Beta is for bug finding. Simple as that, the job of a beta tester is to perform certain functions, actions, and routines to make sure that everything works the way it should. There will initially be one server, and that one may come up and down for a period of time as they implement changes. It can be expected to download sizeable patches on a weekly, even daily basis. Will my computer run PS? The MINIMUM requirements are: 1 gig processor GeForce 2 with 64 megabytes of VRAM 512 system RAM 56k internet access These are the minimum requirements; this does not mean that the game will play well. They are working on lowering them currently, but it can be assumed that at least 512 ram will be necessary for decent playability. When is the game coming out? May? the SOE store has a projected ship date of May 19 2003. This is the only "accurate" source. Will it be pay to play? Yes. The official amount has not been announced, however it is fair to reason that it will be comparable to Sonys other online games, and thus also in the 10-15 dollar a month arena. Will there be Gaming Cards, for those without access to credit cards? Not officially announced yet, but safe to say yes. l there be a free trial period? Most MMO games come with a free months trial. It is again, fair to assume Planet Side will follow suit. --Navarone Sr. Editor PSU
