I haven't ever played PS so I may being spewing mistruths but here goes... Playing most games at there minimum rquirements is a pretty painfull expeirence. It can make for headaches and suicidal tendencys and is best left to those who are gluttons for punishement. But like I said, may be different for PS so if a beta dude comes on and disagrees with me, disregard my betaless butt

That's true to an extent but why should people with medium to high end machines have to have an inferior game so that folks still living like it was 1999 can play?

It sucks, I know, I still have a low end machine but I think if the technology is available for people to make a game with, they should use it. It's the only way to ensure that they will have a profitable product for years to come.

But if half the would-be player base can't run the game, then it doesn't work that way

times change, technology increases, games advance.

advance with them or be left behind.

advance with 10 other people or be left behind with the remaining 100 people? the game has to match the systems of its intended userbase if it wants to make money. yes, technology improves, games improve. But they have to stay in pace along with the majority of users.

seeing as how there are already a thousand or so ppl playing, with more coming with open, i would say that you got those numbers mixed up.

1ghz is no longer high end. if you still haven't broken the minimum requirement for this game, you are in the minority.

And considering you can upgrade to a 1.5Ghz machine for under $300...Specs:

Motherboard:
ECS K7S5A for $42.00 (including pricewatch.com coupon)

Processor:
AMD XP 1700 (1.47Ghz) with Heatsink / Fan for $60.00

Memory:
512Mb DDR PC2100 (266Mhz) for $50.00 x 2 = $100

Video Card: (not too familiar w/ ATI cards, but everyone raves about them so don't flame if you feel this card is terrible.)
ATI Radeon Sapphire 9000 Pro 128Mb DDR DVI TV-Out for $83.00

Leaving you with $15 extra. I've provided links to each vendor's websites. If you need an upgrade for Planetside, and this does not float your boat, e-mail me what you need and your budget. I'll help as many as I can.
