The role of an officer is a simple one on paper, a complicated one in practise; Help your soldiers work together to achieve a common goal. It doesnt matter how you command your unit, it only matters that you can get results. To get results you must ensure that all those under you command work well together, are skilled enough for the job and willing to follow your orders, also ensure that both you and your unit clearly understands thier mission going into battles.
A light hearted approach to commanding will make your unit feel friendlier towards you, but will lead to members not respecting your authority or rank causing disorder.
A strong, forceful approach will keep members in line for fear of punishment, demotion or expultion from the Outfit, but too strong and you risk inspiring hate towards you and will end up in many members leaving.
PROMOTION/DEMOTION - A member is promoted if there is a postion open, on grounds of individual achivement, by recomendation of his/her peers. A member is free to decline a promotion for any reason. A member may be demoted if he/she has had continuing poor results and is deemed unable to take on the responsibility of the rank, as punishment for acting against the values and code of the TRAF, if he/she has asked and given reason to be demoted.
SENIOR CO/JUNIOR CO - A Senior CO is Captain, Wing Commander and Squadron Leader. A Junior CO is Flight Lieutenant, Sargent, Corporal.
(Senior and Junior Rank have nothing to do with the age or length of time in service of a CO, but rather a difference in responsibility)
GROUP CAPTAIN - The role of the Captain is to manage and maintain the Outfit and to ensure everyone right down to the bottom ranks is able to work together and can achieve any goal not matter the scale. It is the job of the Captain to decide upon the missions and tactics used for each large scale operation with the information and assets he has been given. It is his/her job to coordinate the Outfit during these large scale operations. During normal days were there are no large operations or training planned, if the Captian is online he will take charge of anyone who is online at that time and coordinate them on smaller missions to ensure members still work together and have fun fighting as a unit. The Captain has the authority to Promote and Demote any member of the TRAF, to recruit and BAN any member without being obligated to give a reason (although it is good practise to give a reason). The Captain may listen to the comments and opinions of other members but his/her decisions are final.
WING COMMANDER - The role of the Wing Commander is to assist the Captain in the running and managing of the Outfit within their own Wing or Territory (For example a Wing Commander will be in charge of the European Wing while another will be in charge of the USA Wing, however we are nowhere near big enough to have two Wings) The Wing Commander will attend meeting with the Captain and advise in the planning of large scale operations. During normal days if the Captain is not online the Wing Commander will organise what soldiers are online into a working unit to achieve smaller missions.
SQUADRON LEADER - During 'Large Scale Operations' the Squadron leaders will be split to command groups of the Outfit (For example, one Squadron leader will coordinate the two mosqito units and the Liberator unit while another coordinates the galaxies). Squadron leaders will be presant for the monthly meeting to be breifed on the upcoming 'LSO'. When the Outfit is big enough there will be enough Squadron Leaders to have at least one online at any time throughout the day, if there are no higher ranked CO's it the Squadron leaders job to make sure everyone online at the time has a mission and team to work with so that people dont feel alone or left out.
FLIGHT LIEUTENANT - A Flight Lieutenant is in charge of a single unit of the TRAF. As the top ranking Junior CO they will be taking thier men/women straight into battle. The Flight Lieutenants role is to ensure all members of his/her team is fully trained for the jobs they are to fulfill. They are also in charge of maintaining order in thier unit and making sure everyone can work well together, if members of your team have a question or problem they should come to you first, if you dont have the answers then you may take it up the chain. During battles the Flight Lieutenant will recive orders from the Senior CO's and will have to make on the spot decisions as to the best way to achieve those orders before giving his instructions to the unit.
SARGENT - In the case of the TRAF Regiment the Sargent is in charge of coordinating most of the ground forces. They listen to the Flight Lieutenant and direct thier soldiers accordingly. In the case of Air Sargents they are mainly thier to take charge if the Flight Lieutenant is taken out. The Sargent does not have to worry about maintaing moral or order in the group but is responsible more for the training of each individual member of his/her unit.
CORPORAL - Sometimes in a battle the unit will have to split into smaller teams to achieve a goal. During these time the Sargent will look to the Corporal to command an number of soldiers. In the case of 'JACKAL' and 'ARES' the two mosquito squads the corporal is there to lead his wing man as most of the mosquito formations require the unit to split into pairs, one main pilot and the other a wingman.
