GamesRadar Interview with Matt Higby

GamesRadar has up a new interview with Matt Higby.

GR: How will you prevent spawn camping and/or high-level characters harassing low-level areas?

MH: We don’t really have the idea of levels in the traditional MMO way. An established player can be killed by a new player just as easily as anyone else. We have a variety of spawn methods as well; from squad spawning to spawning on deployed vehicles, so having some guys in your spawn point is rarely a game breaking situation

Check out the full interview here.

Nothing at all new but I found this interesting.

Are you using NoScript? You have to allow jquery.com or the text of the interview won't show.

Doesn't sound like we will be able to move our toons from server to server at will. I was kind of hoping we could, especially since each server is only expected to hold 6000 people. When this game blows up, which it will, I can already see this "You are 85/90 in queue" happening for my home server.

Spawn camping is absolutely legitimate. If you're getting camped spawn somewhere else. Not that this will be very possible.

Re: GamesRadar Interview with Matt Higby

i hate the word camping full stop. it get over used. most of the time you are defending something or giving assistance via sniping ect and some idiot will accuse you of camping. really annoys me.
i agree though, these days here are so many ways to spawn, spawn camping is a thing of the past

The article used the term, so I am as well. But anyway, if you are able to locate the enemy's spawn point and wait for them to spawn that's completely legit. For example, finding a deployed Galaxy/forward base.

Spawn camping is an outdated tactic. It's really annoying but it's no longer the crippling maneuver it used to be where people could only spawn in the same spot over and over again no matter what. Now with PS2 at least people will spawn on either their Squad Leader who should be moving around a lot or spawn on a Galaxy which can pick up and move at any time it wants or spawn on a completely different Galaxy on a different front of the same battle or have a back-up Galaxy a little more to the rear of the front just in case of a problem with the forward spawns getting swamped or they can spawn back at the nearest base and fly in on aircav and try to thin out the enemy around the forwards spawns.

GR: Can players defect from one faction to another?

MH: No. But, you’ll be able to create multiple characters (on different servers) to check out the other factions.
Oh I like this. Multiple accounts if you want to switch it up on the same server which means there is an irrevocable divide between accounts resources/XP. At a minimum spies will have to play for two people if they want to actually get good intel.

Maybe, you're not seeing the little buttons to the left and right of the text?
Could also be your browser or something about not getting cookies through.

Tried using a different browser and still not working, could some one just copy paste it so I can read it?

Re: GamesRadar Interview with Matt Higby

why not call planetside 2 PLANETFIELD , after all thats what the developers are trying to copy rather than the original game Planetside

Right; I'm just saying, if you find a way to do it, it's legit and should not be prevented with rules, but it's unlikely to happen because of the sheer diversity of ways to enter the game- squad spawn, galaxies; perhaps even respawning at a nearby owned base (if they allow that).
