Help Wanted: News Posters

Want to join the staff of PlanetSide Universe? This could be your chance! We are seeking several news posters to assist in the daily operations of the site! As the game release and beta draws near things will be picking up more each month. In an attempt to get ahead of that we would like to bring on board several news posters from various time zones.

Requirements are as follows:

  • Must have a love for PlanetSide and PlanetSide 2.
  • Must be willing to dedicate the time and effort to news browsing and to staff responsibilities. (occasionally there are responsibilities outside news posting)
  • Ability to idle on IRC and be accessible via some sort of IM as often as possible.
  • Ability to work alone sometimes you would be the only staff member around when news comes in.
  • Quality writing skills our news posts are read all around the world.
  • HTML Knowledge is a MUST. Must have experience with basics such as hotlinks, image links, blockquotes, and the occasional table.
  • Social media experience, Twitter, Facebook etc.
  • We would also love if you were an existing member of the community but that is not a requirement.

Remember we are seeking news posters from different time zones so if you are interested your locale does not matter! The new position is a volunteer position only but there are occasionally some other benefits to working with the staff at PSU. So if you think you fit the bill head on over to the application page and let us know!

So I know how to read and understand the definition of the word "must" but is there any room for someone who lacks HTML skills? I meet all other applicable requirements but am no Code Monkey. I'm willing to learn however and I am at least familiar with what HTML looks like.

Also: The application process seem's to just send me in circles...I'm confused D:

Circles What do you mean?

Basic HTML skills really are a must, most posts need to be done very quickly so a basic understanding of HTML really is required.

I'm out then :P

When I click to go to the apply section It tells me I need to log in, then brings me around to the forum directory page to do so. Then I log in and it just does the same thing. (This also happens when I try to submit Quotes for the header up top...just sends me in circles)

Re: Help Wanted: News Posters

Hey folks... I thought I'd come by and share a few thoughts as a former newsie for PSU back in its heyday.

First of all, being on staff of the largest and most popular PS fan site is an honor and a privilege. The community both within the staff and the larger fan base is really impressive, given the size of the game and the number of players. To be on staff at PSU is to hold a special place in the Planetside community.

That said, being a newsie at PSU is no cakewalk. Although Hamma has already noted that there is no specific time requirement, you should be willing to be available to post breaking news as quickly as you can. For me, this often included dodging out of class to find the nearest computer to post something that one of my news aggregators alerted me to. It also meant I spent a significant amount of free time trolling the various other fan sites, PS site, and PS official forums looking for news. In addition, I spent innumerable hours hanging out in PSU's IRC channel shootin' the breeze with my friends, the PSU community.

From time to time, you may also be tasked with writing up some how-tos, in-depth articles, or guides for various features or game pieces (like vehicles, certs, etc). You'll also be pulled in to assist in moderation and logistics whenever PSU or AGN hosts a large community event. Throughout your entire day, you'll need to be able to keep an eye on the PSU forums and IRC channel to make sure they're moderated properly and that community development is encouraged. And don't forget - you've gotta keep Hamma happy.

In a nutshell, being a newsie for PSU is a commitment that should be taken seriously. Be prepared to dedicate your time and efforts to the website and the community.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and let me know.

Re: Help Wanted: News Posters

Dropped in an application myself, even if I havn't been posting too long on these boards, but I love doing work for the community. I guess one thing to show my dedication for this kinda things could be my 6000+ posts on G1's APB:R forums, that I joined this January after they started bringing the game back from the dead. That's over 21 posts a day, and none of them are just "lol" or "+1", but everyone pretty much constructive posts with actual content. I spend way too much reading and writing on various forums So far university hasn't suffered too much from it, though

Then again, I really dislike IRC so that'll probably kill my chances
