PC Gamer has posted up a bunch of new Vanu screenshots including the first in game we have seen of the Scythe.
Technology’s pretty great. That’s what PlanetSide 2′s Vanu Sovereignty believes, and I’m inclined to agree with them. Well, not in the borderline-nutty “worship a super-advanced ancient alien race” type of way, but these high-tech computing boxes we all love so much sure can draw some pretty pictures. Case in point: these new Vanu screens that SOE has so kindly provided.
Head on over to PC Gamer to check out all the screenshots. Special thanks to basti for the tip!

Re: PC Gamer Vanu Screenshots Oops, doublepost. Sorry Anyway, I thought about how the Scythe might handle, and this is what I came up with: We know it floats with magnetic fields. But it also has a big-ass thruster in the back. And the first pic we saw it on had a trail of fire. So my theory: it uses the magnetic fields to essentially cancel gravity, but that is not it's propulsion, the big rocket in the back is. This means that at any given time you could shut down your thruster and let inertia carry you floating the way you were headed while turning whichever way. Allowing you to fire at pursuers while still fleeing, look around without slowing down or to drift over a base wall never braking stride while keeping it under fire during the entire pass It also means that rookie pilots who forget to engage their parking brake will often find that as a prank their Scythe was given a push and is now floating several hundred meters off the ground What do you guys think? edit then again on second thought, hovercraft using thrust-vectoring should be able to do all that to some degree (depending on the range it can turn the thrusters) |

Re: PC Gamer Vanu Screenshots I think realistic flight physis were promised, how do you make an aircraft make a 180 turn midair with only a thruster in the back? Given, VTOL landing would probably need an explanation as well. Question being, can you turn around like a helicopter can without going to an angle around your own axel. In Magriders case this is sort of a given. However, it ALSO moves only with it's floaty mechanics. The thrust for Scythe comes from the thruster and after take off, there's no ground for the floaty mechanic to touch. If Scythe was to be able to just turn around in the air like a Magrider can in the ground, then it should also pretty much be able to float in the air without any momentum too, and I doubt this will be given, as I think it was one of the biggest things about changing the flight physics to not have a Reaver sit up 20m off the base door killing anyone who peeks out. |

Re: PC Gamer Vanu Screenshots my .02 about the way the Scythe looks....I would only make one SMALL adjustment. Make the back in a "little" shorter than it is. This would accentuate the front blades of the aircraft and give it more of a small/nimble feel. IMO of course. |

Re: PC Gamer Vanu Screenshots
However, you make a good point about hoverspamming. |

Re: PC Gamer Vanu Screenshots I appreciate that you are doing a fantastic job developing planetside 2 , but i'm used too two aircraft reaver and mossie and considering reaver/mossie and scythe now belong to each empire . does that mean its one aircraft per player , i'm sorry but i don't like he sound of that as i'm used to having two vehicles reaver/mossie |

Re: PC Gamer Vanu Screenshots Also, the vehicle timer will presumably be balanced around the fact that you will only be able to pull one aircraft at a time. If you die quickly and aren't able to pull a new aircraft for a little while, it's probably intentional. We don't know if this will happen or not though, so let's not speculate too wildly until we get some solid information on vehicle timers (or the PS2 equivalent). |

Re: PC Gamer Vanu Screenshots I take it as thrusters arent scythe main "engine" for flying and maneuvering, but only for added afterburner. |
