Seems like a lot of work for 1000 SOE points ($10.00 USD).

i think it is a good idea and you have the choice to participate or not. I may even give it a go for PS and I would encourage others to do the same.

Fanfiction and participation in events such as this imho are key for the success of games. They are also a great barometer of the health of a community. For a company you have a whole paying marketing base for you who will generate a 1000 ideas because of there love of your product. Some of these may be off the wall but others will be absolute gems which need cultivating.

As I have put in other posts I would try and give the players as much influence as possible away from the core back bone of the product and empower them with the ability to blog and propagate their stories of the game. This is often the best way of attracting new blood and greater subscriptions secondary to any major marketing push. Again use CCP as the benchmark core story remains the same but there are some very high quality fan sites out there. WoW has the same but I am not sure the quality is quite at the same level (I am being subjective it is just a matter a taste to me).
