SOE Live PlanetSide 2 Tournament - PlanetSide Universe

SOE is planning another PlanetSide 2 tournament this year at SOE Live in Las Vegas, NV. This years tournament revolves around Squad play.

Up next on August 2, 2013, are the Planetside 2 and DC Universe Online Tournaments. Starting off at 10am* is Planetside 2 with the PlanetSide 2: Elite Squad Showdown. Grab 5 of your friends and form a team of 6 to compete for kills, captures, and glory. Who knows, you might be taking home part of a purse that totals over $10,000! DCUO will follow at 1pm* with the DC Universe Online: Legends PvP Tournament. Pairs of majestic heroes or dastardly villains will battle it out in a single elimination tournament to split $6,000 in prizes.

I find the lack of replies to this very interesting.

I for one I'm not too excited about it because I don't know if I can participate. Plus the only fun 6 v 6 scenario I could have in PS2 is a pure ESF fight.

I would think that the only people interested in replying to the thread are those who will be attending the event. So not really surprised to see a lack of replies. I doubt that many of us euro's will be attending, heh.

I couldn't care much less about this tournament... By the way, I'm aware of the irony of claiming to have little interest and yet still taking the time to write a post. So don't bother pointing that out.

You have to be kidding me. As a Canadian Citizen the only reason I booked my SOE Live Event ticket was to participate in the Planetside 2 events. Why would Sony not make this open to other Countries outside the U.S.? If this rule is going to stand I am going to demand a refund for my SOE ticket. This is by far the most frustrating thing I have ever read. Sony is going to lose A HUGE AMOUNT of publicity and people going to this event because of this.

Absolutely ridiculous and I'm beyond pissed off.

Im going to take a slab in the dark and say it may have something to do with US law and prize competitions. On the other US based forums I am on, they run comps and non US citizens are not able to be accepted. Being an Aussie, it makes me sad

Does it say you cant attend the event as a non US citizen or you cant enter the competitions?

Im happy to be be corrected if this is not the case...

Yeah, US only rule is infuriating a lot of the guys that have already paid to go to the event. They bought tickets to the "All Access Pass" which suddenly has a new rule that only allows US citizens from participating in the tournament. This was not disclosed when purchasing the tickets to the event.

I personally had members from my outfit who already bought tickets and scheduled their lives to participate in the tournament and now are suddenly excluded from participating. Sony needs to reevaluate this. People fly from all over the world to Las Vegas to gamble legally, there has to be a way to do this.

I suppose it's too much to ask to simply remove the prizes and just have a huge brawl where winner simply gets accolades and happy feelings?

Well it's not a sign up thread. Is every poster in a SOE live thread going? No they're just discussing opinions, hopes, and expectations. Not many have even stated their small group or outfit is going for this tournament yet.

I guess my point is there just doesn't seem to be any buzz over it.

I'm not a huge fan of the scoring system. In a small scale game utility items should be a higher point value than kills with a regular gun.

SOE has always had these restrictions with their tourneys. To much legal mumbo jumbo to deal with giving money to folks not from the USA>
