News from Twitter?......

John Smedley ‏ @j_smedley Close
We've come up with a plan to allow ALL players to play on any servers they want. More details to follow.

The EQ community was likely a huge driving force here as well.

Why the question mark? I'd say this is very good news for the community.

Well before there are details, it could be a less than perfect solution.

this is really good to see and to be honest very unexpected.

Potentially happy grins on a Monday now thats magic

(I think the EQ community was the real driving force here and I saw some very big EVE outfits questioning if they would take up the game not just Test)

I really cannot decide where I am at on this whole thing. I like having more players, but not if it means Im having to be lag killed by them due to latency issues.

Seems pretty cut and dry, ANY player on ANY server?

It looks like we will still have the songs of the British in our ears for the time being.

Can't wait to hear more, glad SOE pulled it out, if they did.

Okay, seriously, enough.

You people need to STOP thinking about Planetside when you think about lag. Planetsides Client side hit detection, movment prediction etc is AWFUL. Its what made the game possible at that time, couldnt have been any other way back then, but it was a awful solution.
Those problems from it wont appear in Planetside 2. You wont get that crazy warping, you wont get that crazy lag, but it wont be as bad.
You will still see a difference between someone with a ping of 50 and someone with a ping of 150, but its most likley that extremly small that it doesnt matter.

While BF3 is a whole different game, but it's actually quite a big difference to play on a 150ms server in comparison to a 50ms server.

I do however agree that comparing to Planetside isn't viable. It uses so antique netcode.

Playing in another region's server could still have a higher ping then PS1 had if they set up up a certain way. But this decision alone is a nice step forward, I bet Smed pulled the boss card in getting to announce it himself.
