The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is in theaters this Friday. I've read the book that the movie is about. It's a 3 book series about a war game to the death that kids are forced to play for their respective districts. Anyone else read the book or plan on watching the movie?

I did read the books - well, listened to the Audio version (commuting is good for SOMETHING). I'm not as excited as I am interested in the reception - it might show how good Enders Game might be ...

They did a screening at my university, Lionsgate has done that rather often here, and personally I thought it was a really genuine feeling, visceral performance compared to the usual super high budget hollywood films I was accustomed to. I was a fan of the books, and I really quite liked it.

They did a good job, honored the books as well as they could I think. Will be interesting to see how it does and if they make more.

They will NEVER pull off a Ender's Game movie.

Not even with 500 million dollar budget and a 4-hours long run time.

My friend was telling me about it, sounded kind of silly.

I wouldn't say that, exactly - but they cannot do the single book. Orson Scott Card has discussed this a bit in a couple of places.

The key point (that relates to The Hunger Games) is how young will the public accept violent stars? One of the key points is the young ages in the Enders Game series.

The internal dialog is a tough point too, but that also relates to The Hunger Games - much of Katnis' moods and internal struggle must come out on the screen somehow. If they can pull that off, which many movies have failed to do in the past, it will bode well for others ...

about the point of young actors accepted doing violent stuff... i think kick ass was kind of successful, and the little hitgirl wasn´t only violent, but also naughty.

I really enjoyed this series but I'm going into the movie with reservations. That way, I can only be pleasantly surprised if it turns out to be good.

I was wondering how well the movie would portray the book. The movie is 2 hours 22 minutes long. Most movies run about 1 and a half hours long. I know length of the movie may not matter much, but it does with a lot of sci-fi book/movies.

It's good to see that the author of the book is a huge part of the movie production.

Ender's Game is one of my favorite books of all time. We'll see how it goes, but I'm hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised, even if there is a good chance it will fail.

Someone posted this link on facebook:

My problem with this map is, wouldn't they still use geographical landmarks as boundaries?
