I imagine an AI MAX will be balanced around having both arms as AI weapons.
It'll end up the same as the biffers, you didn't really see people using 2 different arms as they weren't effective enough at one specific job to be useful. I guess the same will be true of these MAXes Jack of all trades won't really be worth it in most cases

LOL I was just able to watch the video from last night and knew as soon as I herd this I knew there would be a thread. The Scat max was 1 of the worst balanced things in PS1, and now you can dual wield with it
(I understand its a new game and balance will be different) |

chill guys, new game, new mechanics, beta balancing
Everything will be different most of all the environment we will fight in will be bigger, the current scattermax was only effective because you were forced into its arms. Last edited by Mastachief; 2012-02-25 at 07:55 AM. |

Dont forget instant data feedback to the devs will be alot more detailed and conclusive this time around. We will have clear hotspots where each unit excells and fails, some with intentional shortcomings, others with accidental shortcomings.
I dare say after one big base battle, they will have everything they need to start swapping numbers around. The hardest battle in my opinion will be making AV weapons do the correct amount of damage to infantry. We dont want a situation where people just equip AV because its good at one thing and okay at another. But at the same time, if someone takes a rocket to the face, we all have an idea of the type of lethality that has to a person, even with shields. My biggest worry is that guarding base interiors will be a spam fest with explosives. Battlefield has grenades just right, you use them to get someone out of cover, and if you dont notice it and die then its your own fault. But battlefield also fails because i can kill someone at 200 metres with my RPG because my SMG doesnt have the range. Stupid. I should never want to kill a man and want to pull out my AV rocket for splash damage. |

Yes, I can confirm, in the PC Gamer article, Evan Lahti says that there is a MAX certification that allows you to wield twin iterations of the same gun. So one could not slot the same weapon twice by default, but they could certify the ability to do so. Evan's particular MAX setup was a chaingun and a grenade launcher. He said it blew infantry into pieces (until they started outmaneuvering him because MAX's turn so slow- good thing my brother's gaming mouse has "sensitivity adjustment on the fly"! He's going to be a Vanu MAX pilot).

Just make it so rockets have a low splash and move (comparatively) slower so you can dodge. Rocket will still kill a person, but guns are faster and more effective. Grenades on the other hand are meant to kill infantry and were excellent counters to hardened defensive positions, so they should stick around.
