Infiltrator Week

That's right folks, looks like it is Infiltrator week this week...
http://www.planetside2.com/news/infi...comm-link-2012

Even though Rebirthing technology has nearly eliminated the concept of fear on Auraxis, the Infiltrator remains one of the few things soldiers are afraid of. Originally specializing in the assassination of high-profile political targets, the Infiltrator quickly found a home on the battlefield. Their presence alone has rapidly become synonymous with unease and paranoia, causing enemy soldiers to perceive even shadows in their peripheral as a very real threat. Fear combined with their specialized recon and sniping roles makes the Infiltrator a welcome addition to any empire’s ranks...
Hopefully some more 'mazin screenshots to come later in the week

About bloody time.

Unless of course they give out even less info then what the Medics got.

I am still of two minds about Cloakers being the new snipers. I loved ganking those sniping SOB's and now I have to gank my own class?

" The most recent iterations of infiltration suits allow the use of various cloak configurations, allowing Infiltrators to customize their camouflage’s strength and power consumption based on their preferences and needs."
Hmmmm, does this mean cloaking will costs like stamina? And that we can decide ourselves if we want to sacrifice weaker cloaking for lower stamina drain? Interesting....

It could just refer to the weaker cloak of sniper infils

Hrm, still don't know what sort of unique value an Infiltrator brings to a squad other than the ability to cloak and long-range effectiveness.

The description mentioned power consumption, so it looks as though cloaking is not something that can be on permanently like PS1 and is more like the Spy mechanic from TF2, though presumably with a lot longer stealth timer. And of course power consumption and strength are customizable.

I'd really like to know what sort of unique teamwork-oriented value an Infiltrator brings to the table. Can they help capture objectives faster? Do they have an EMP grenade? Do they auto-spot enemy soldiers in their view?

Other than long range effectiveness, why would a squad of heavy infantry want an infiltrator? I don't think a cloaking suit is a strong enough reason to take one. Auto-spotting hostiles for the squad might justify close-recon support, as would an EMP grenade.

Exactly. Perfect for foward observation and 'Infiltration'.

I thought we already had infiltrator week, or atleast have already seen enough of all 3.

I am glad you feel that way.

Please make sure the rest of the Enclave feel that way as well.

Please.

We'll have a few, but the question is how many. Don't need a lot of people to scout around nearby. 1 per 30? 1 per 10? Right now it seems most likely we'll only need 1-2 per 30 for overwatch. Any more than that is a wasted MAX, Medic, or Rexo.

Seems like the real "value" of the infiltrator is to make the people who like stealth gameplay or sniping happy. Generally its not a role that is overly beneficial to teamwork.

But if they have something unique to bring to the table they might be worth having at the squad level. I've yet to see anything that warrants more than 1 per 30.

Everyone does, Enclave doesn't currently see the infiltrator as a worthwhile unit at all. One or two incredibly good snipers might be beneficial, obviously the point being that they have to be genuinely of the exceptionally skilled group for it to be worthwhile, otherwise, no.

Sniper cloak is only short timed so thats probably where it comes. Maybe every cloak drain energy, based on size of cloaked item. So infil without big weapon could stay cloaked forever s power regeneration is bigger than consumption. If you take bigger weapon consumption increase shortening and disrupting cloak.

I would like to see role in squad too. It cant even be stealthy medic/resser like in ps1.

Possible roles i can think of:
  • Respawn point - infiltating base and allowing squad spawn on him
  • Sabotage - killing gens allowing squad to move on. (no need heavy weapons in ps2 for that)
  • Distraction - causing panic in defending troops so they start looking for him and squad can easily attack.
  • Recon - with faster ttk it would be nice to know if there is anyone around corner before i walk there
