Legal stuff. They already said they won't let players do anything for the game.

Which is why I say they should wait a year and then make the game open source.

Tbh "legal stuff" sounds more like "we can't be arsed to deal with this" to me.

After all we're talking about a decade old game here in which nobody has any stakes anymore, nor is it creating any form of revenue at all.

When it comes down to it the best course of action opposed to "nothing" is just releasing the damn code and letting us set up our own (fixed) server. That is no take on SOE here (as i still find the decision to make PS1 free astoundingly non-evil for a major studio), just my 2 cents on how to salvage PS1 without SOE having to manage it.

I think the lawyers can get a good Creative Commons license written up to protect the IP and after that let the community go hog wild. It'd eliminate the remaining hassle and make SOE look hip.

Exactly.

SOE really should do this.

Any word on CC and BFRs yet? Or atleast a means to increase pop?

I think the best we can hope for is a fix to CC, and I fear even that is a stretch.

Couldn't hurt to ask Twist about the CC+BFR fix.

Fixing core combat would essentially fix the BFR problem. I'd have to imagine it's all related.

Well, couldn't hurt to ask.

We're a patient bunch. We'll hang in there as long as it takes
