Like it or not, VS has always had black as part of it's color palette. Each of the 3 color palettes can be broken something like this:
First third: Main color This is the main color that the empire fills in their color schemes with. Blue for NC, purple for VS, black for TR. Middle third: Accent color This is the color used for trim and highlights and to make the empires stand out. Yellow for NC, teal for VS, red for TR. Last third: Undercoat This is the base color that is used to fill in the parts left uncolored by the main color schemes. These are more neutral coloration spots, not specifically intended to differentiate the empires. All three are in the grey scale spectrum, while the NC tends to be lighter, the VS tends to be darker, and the TR spans from light to dark. Look at all of the black on PS1 VS armor. They've actually toned it back quite a bit on the models we've seen so far, although I hope we get some customization options that let me get back to my black and purple (with an orange tinted visor) roots. That's what you get for having black as one of your primary colors. There will inevitably be some crossover. It's no big deal as long as the VS never get an all black tank like you guys have. I do have to admit, vehicles always look awesome in black and red. |

The way the palette is organized it looks like the thick colors at the top of each empire is the "base" color
TR = Grey, NC = Blue, VS = Purple This is consistent with the low-BR colors of PS1 There are progressively darker variations to this base color, just as there were in PS1. In the above palette the progressive colors have TR with near-black for a base color, NC having a navy blue, and VS having a dark purple. Then there is the Accent color for each empire, with is the middle thick color band: TR = Red, NC = Yellow, VS = Teal The accent color has some variations also that have minor shades lighter and darker to the main accent color. Then there's a 3rd set of colors that appears to be a base "undercoat" as mentioned above, where TR start from a light grey and go to black, NC go from a light grey to tan, and VS go from a silver to black. The colors definitely look consistently organized in the palette. Perhaps Higby or T-Ray could explain them or at least confirm if our assumptions are correct? Also, extra thanks to Higby for putting this together for us! Last edited by Malorn; 2012-04-27 at 07:47 PM. |
