KillCam poll revisited - post March 6th footage.

Thanks to the GCD presentation yesterday, we now have an idea of what the KillCam looks like, where as before we were just speculating.

Now, i'm sure the KillCam will still have changes made to it as the game progresses through Alpha and Beta - but we now have seen some footage and have more of an idea of how it fits into the game.

So, what do we think?

Feel free to explain your answers.

I'm half fine with the current killcam - same setting as BF and that hasn't affected the way I play. I would much prefer the Planetside spinning one.

I just don't want the crappy CoD one where it replays the kill.

It didn't look out of place to me. When I watched the videos I didn't even really think anything of it until I read the forums. I understand some people have concerns about not being able to hide someplace and shoot people, but that doesn't really seem like something I'd be troubled by. Either way, I think I like being able to see who killed you and with what. It's a nice touch.

Keep it to session based shooters where the match ends in 30 minutes.

Planetside is a war game.

Killcams defenders made some points that you can learn from killcam what mistake you made or how they killed you. This type of killcam provide neither of that. Its only there so killer can visually taunt you when he kill you. (and you then tell your squad mates where is he running).
It needs to go, or be changed to other type of killcam.

I just don't like it, because as TheGlmup said, all it does is show were the person was, giving away their position.

If you're trying to defend a base as a Sniper and every time you kill someone they can see EXACTLY where you are. You're going to get Air Caved pretty swiftly.

I just don't think it has a place in PS2. CoD which i play alot, i think the KillCam is a good tool. In PS2, i just think it doesn't work.

Its even worse. If you were good sniper that change place after every shot just not to be seen, now you have to wait like 30s before you start moving since they would see where you are moving. Retarded.

When I first saw the kill cam my reaction was "yuck".

It seemed really out of place, especially playing since I've played Planetside for 9 years, it was just.....Ugh, it didn't belong.

You don't need the screen to zoom to the guy who just killed you when you died, you don't need to see a replay of your death, you can just hover around your dead corpse for a few minutes and try not to repeat the same mistake you made the first time around.

As others have said, it gives away a players position and awards dieing with scouting intelligence.

It's not very REALISTIC either, which everyone seems to have a boner for on these forums.

No thank-you killcam. You don't belong in a persistent battle, stick to your round based games, please and thank-you.

I love how in every interview the devs state how they listen to us... Only problem is that they don't care much. We had a vote on this topic before, and the results were in obvious favour of no killcam, yet it's still in game. gj.

The biggest issue I have with killcam is that it kills the presistent feel of the game.

For all I care the death screen can show the name of the player who killed you, the weapon he used and maybe how much health he has left and other shenanigans I don't really care about, but DON'T show the actuall player and reveal his position. It adds nothing to the game but instead has a very negative effect (on smaller combats). I'm not really a fan of the big red markers either by the way ...

These are also my sentiments.

In the last thread, the minority advocated killcams with weaker reasons like catching hackers or helping new players learn, and this killcam doesn't even have that.

The killcam in the video was very jerky, which leads me to believe they haven't invested too much time on implementing it. I'd rather they just drop it now instead of investing further time into it. Killcams really aren't needed, but that type of killcam especially.

Worked really well. I like mechanisms that keep you in the game so you don't have to go and stare at a textbox to see who finally got you. Especially in a plane. It's also really seamless that it just goes to the object that killed you.

True that kill cams are for learning, but the kill cam that we displayed at GDC wouldn't work for that at all. One way to really learn from a kill cam is if it replays the kill so you can actually see how you died.
Edit: Another way to is a stats screen that shows who killed you, what rank they were what they did it with and what implants/class they were using.

No one should want that in an MMO FPS where there are huge amounts of people dieing all the time. This isn't because it'd load down the server, the developers could reasonably figure out a way that it wouldn't if they really wanted it. No the reason it's a bad idea is because it utterly ruins tactics for small groups.

Unfortunately that is all beside the point and doesn't matter at all because also displayed in the GDC videos was a tab just to purchasing taunts. If you think they're gonna be putting purchasable taunts into the game then of course they're gonna need a way to encourage people to buy them.

i prefer the original ps1 corpsecam!

the killcam from the demo just feels totally wrong.
it kicks in too early and makes no sense.
i need to see my corpse and the surroundings to evaluate if i will wait for a medic or respawn.

the killspam was always enough for me to check who killed me. don´t need a killcam for that purpose.
