Severe lag in large fights with a 2500+, radeon 9800 pro

I get severe lag, 1-5min delays, whenever im in an area that involves a large fight. I have cable so I cant see why its the connection causing the problem. Anyone else have this problem? Thought maybe i got something set wrong...

I'm not good with computers but I bet the answer to your problem will be found when you tell us how much ram you have

Does the pc2700 make a difference, or will 1gig make the difference?

Get some more RAM. Even at 512 it has to go to the swap file. get 700 or more. Gig is the best probably then get more if you want

Well, it also depends on how many in your area have cable connected.

When you're running a cable modem, basically you're attached to a house-to-house LAN in a local area. If there are more people on-line and on-cable, you're going to experience an increase in LAG.

Also, how many programs are you running in the backround? I shut down everything, including my firewall and anti-virus. I make sure no instant messenger proggys are on. Oftentimes people turn on Kazaa or something like that and forget it's running in the backround.

I would recommend investing $125 and getting 2 sticks of 512Mb Crucial 2700 DDR. 2100 is for keychains right now. 2700 should be the minimum you're running your RAM at now.

1-5 minute delays has nothing to do with graphics or ram, that's a purely network connection problem, aka real lag. don't know what you could do other then try those different bandwidth settings they've implemented.

lag that was your cpu, harddrive, or graphics card's fault would result in immediate choppy video, but no delay or lack of response in the gameworld.

Very true. Try different bandwidth settings...

Under SmartGart in your video options, disable fastwrite. You'll need to do it in your BIOS also. Radeon's don't support fastwrite.

i was wondering, would it be better to get 512 pc3200 in my new system or get an additional 512 pc2100 to make it have either 512 pc3200 or 1gig pc2100?

would it be better to get the 3200 and get another 512 eventually or go for the 1 gig pc2100?

a gig is much better all the way. ram speed doesn't come into play that much but how much memory programs will use is always increasing and PS is a memory monster.

Well here are my specs:

GeForce 4 TI4200 128 MB

I have swap set to 1536 min 1536 max
Preload textures is set to LOW
VSync is Defaulted to ON Set with aTuner (www.guru3d.com)
Goto this link: >>Articles/OS/OSguides.htm - Find your OS and turn off ALL un-needed services.
Flora needs to be OFF, rock, ground etc textures can be off etc.

I did this and I run fine with good graphics as well.
