Possible bug with Dark Light?

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this so I'll run it by here.

I've noticed that when someone, friendly or enemy, is using Dark Light; it will show the DL icon next to their name.

Thing is, there are times when the enemy is using DL but the icon doesn't show up next to the name getting me killed when I could have surged out of there. Anyone else notice this?

I exchanged tells with a Vanu on my server and I asked how he saw me when I wasn't moving for the past 15 minutes. He said he had DL active but I didn't see the icon above his head even though he was 5 feet from me.

I already bug reported this actually, I'd say you see their DL being active less than 50% of the time it actually is. Add the fact that I'm positive (although I've yet to see too many others comment on it) that they made infil more visible during crouch walking after this last patch and it's a rough time to be infil.

Good.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't insane.

Must be too many people whining about being killed by infiltrators.

I haven't noticed this, but tehy better not have silently nerfed my infiltrator.

Hello,

I play an infiltrator also for the fun of sneaking around, but the idea that I should see when someone has DV on doesn't make sense to me frankly. Why should we see when someone is using it? We should just assume everyone has it, as most do, and deal with it that way. I know it makes it hard for cloakers, but from a game perspective it doesn't make sense to me to see when someone has DV on, friend or foe. It is giving a cloaker information they wouldn't really have imho.

You are right about the bug though. Sometimes I see people with it on, and other times I do not. I'm sure though that I have killed many cloakers without using my DV however. How do I know they are there? A friend told me on TeamSpeak, I saw them stop moving right there or near there, I'm spraying bullets to make sure, or I bumped into something I shouldn't have. There are many reasons, but I do agree the bug is there. Sometimes people using it do not show the symbol.

However, I crash to the desktop a lot now, and the game used to be very stable. I'd rather have them fix that problem first! hehe

8-)

My main reason is that it's the only way for us to fuction since everyone and their mother has DL.

It basically allows us to know when someone can see us so we can run away. I mean, it takes 4-5 bullets to kill us so this type of "danger sense" should be unique to infiltrators.

It's already hard when you have some guy randomly shooting the areas with grenades and you're going to make it harder for us to get away? It's easy to see us while moving. It's easy to see us while crouched moving. It's easy to see us because almost everyone uses DL. Now, you're going to deny us our only safety net to survive when it's so easy to kill us?

Not only that, DL has a pretty big range AND it hardly drains any stamina. Normally, I would throw DL on, spin 360 degrees, walk a little bit, repeat.

Either 1.) Put the icon back so I can see everyone using it or 2.) Make it so that the other implants are more inviting so not everyone uses DL.

Other ideas

I think Darklight should also have a counter implant like Silent Run is to Audio Amplifier. Something like a EM pulser, that drains slighlty more stamina than DL, so you would only use it when you see someone with it turned on. I know you can use Jammer grenades, but when you only have one pistol sized slot, you don't really want to always keep a jammer nade in that slot. An implant that has a similar effect as Jammers, but only when it is turned on would be good.
I also think Darklight should have armor penalties that affect range. For example, Standard and infil suits would have the same range as it is now when using darklight vision, Agile would have 75% of the current range, Reinforced would have 50% and MAXes would have 25%. Also anyone driving an enclosed-cockpit vehicle shold not be able to turn DL on, and they should have reduced visibility for cloakers as well.

Besides this, the major issue with not being able to see ppl with the DL icon, is that they just "flicker" it, swithcing it on and off for less than 1 second at a time. It avoids stamina drain, and prevents infils from knowing they are using DL. This is a serious loophole that can be used in other implants, like surge where you can "flicker" to circumvent armor penalties and not lose any stamina in the process. ALL implants should have a 10 second minimum time on. In other words you won't be able to turn off an implant for 10 seconds after you turn it on, or until your stamina drains, this would result in a more conservative and thoughtful use of implants, and less of this loopholing. DL is too powerful, if you act like everyone has DL turned on all the time, why don't you just play an agile or Reinforced? The fact is the way DL is right now, it makes infils practically useless.

I too have seen this bug and have /tell'd multiple people about it to make sure they were using DL. As for your comment, for all we know, the people using DL may have extremely bright green glowing eyes or something that would be obvious to a infil, so it very well may be info that the cloaker would have.
