Continent Locking

Noob question, I've been focusing on my battle rank and not my command rank (yet), so I haven't sat down and fully tried to understand the subtlties of the lattice. I understand some of the most basic principles (like you can't hack a base you don't have a link to, and vaguely how base linkings affect respawn points). What is needed to make a continent lock? How do you link a facility from off map? There have been many instances where I have seen one empire control every facility on a continent, but it is not locked.

Continent locks aren't working currently, and that's why you don't see them.

i thought it was because you needed to control all the towers as well as the bases to get cont lock

That's not true. They aren't working, or are only working poorly.

you have to control all the bases and towers, and have the base on the other side of all the warpgates too...its not supposed to work like that though....

what does the continent lock to? people can't access it by warpgates? or can't drop?

A continent lock creates an entire SOI over the continent. At least it's supposed to. And it keeps anyone from HARTing into that continent, and it's SUPPOSED to keep people from even entering the warpgate from the other sides. much like we can't walk into an Opposing side's Sanctuary gate. It's like walking into a brick wall. Appearently, if you own the base connecting to a Sanctuary gate, you are able to enter the opposing sanctuary. There is a training sheet for every character. As you do things EI: Pull out your knife, Use a Sunderer, Use 25mm gun, Visit Amerish, Visit Vehicle Terminal at Drop Ship Center, etc..., as you do these things, you get experiance for them the first time, and the training sheet is SUPPOSEd to put a check mark beside it. For most things, it does. I've still yet to get check mark for Visitng all the continents, and the VR train facilities. The Training sheet is broken for things like these, so says the people at SOE.
