I'm pondering what combination of vehicles and personnel would allow a squad to create a spawn environment that is at least equal in quality to a tower. Naturally, the AMS would be its heart. If all squad members matrixed, it would do wonders for keeping people together. Supporting this could be a Skyguard, which has amazing AA and AV power. If combat engineers got the area mined and the perimeter solidly fenced with motion sensors, it would become a virtual fortress, with an answer to just about every attack. If this defensive formation were established near a tower, it would create a virtual cancer in the enemy's defensive capabilities. The next logical step would be to take a tech plant and then a dropship center. It's only a pity that the Lodestar isn't in the game yet. I imagine patrolling locked friendly continents will be a higher priority when a squad could send five heavy transports loaded with AMSs to create a massive spawn area near a vulnerable base. Until then, it would take a pretty stealthy AMS driver to really get the ball rolling.
With the vehicle favorites implemented, a combat engineer can have access to a great many ACEs without returning to an equipment terminal. The AMS produces them up to 14 at a time, and is a natural choice for a team of engineers. If you've ever seen a minefield consisting of 40 to 60 mines with turrets to complicate minesweeping, you know what a tactical advantage it can supply. The Skyguard, in its current form, is uniquely capable of supporting the AMS, having a cannon that can keep aircraft from adeqauately scouting the defensive formation. Its cannon can also chew through medium and light vehicles with uncanny ferocity, and its maneuverability can allow it to lure enemies into minefields. Once a few people start spawning at your AMS, you've got it made. I think it would be amusing to do this near an enemy warpgate. Once you've got the base in a sleeper hold, you could destroy wave after wave of reinforcements from the enemy sanctuary for big experience. Commanders could issue the general order to not fire on enemy infiltrators so you could lure one to start a hack on the base, only to resecure it 14 minutes later for full CEP. Any commander that can exert his will upon an entire base would surely be impressive. As for governing an entire continent, I think a wise leader would delegate a lot of that, but in the formative stage of the continental assault, one base would have to be airtight, and that's tough. Getting the base's turrets manned goes a long way in balking an enemy assault. I've been soloing too much, I guess. First thing when I get home I'm going to try to get some of my friends on Konried to work on perfecting a mobile base and see what kind of havoc we can wreak. Sounds like a fun. edit: A Sunderer sized mobile base that unfolded Optimus Prime style into a structure with turrets, spawn pads, equipment pads and a vehicle pad capable of producing any vehicle that doesn't require a tech plant would be insanely badass.

Yes, that's a problem, no denying it, but if it happens that's one fewer OS to threaten my next formation.

That seems too much like Tribes 2 mods. Maybe I am just thinking that but a vehical p[ad that unfolded? That would be a very bad decision for balance and such IMO only. Don't flame me for stating my opinion.

If it had a capacitator or something that went down as vehicles were spawned, it could be made balanced, but I am not too keen on the idea. I have seen 4 CEs create a killing field around an AMS that would be a nightmare for any cloaked cr4/5 to navigate. An emp wouldn't remove a third of it. During a decent size battle, my outift usually stations a sparrow MAX at important AMSs, but a skyguard would be even better. |

People don't tend to get flamed for their opinions on this board. It's pretty mellow.

We, the Digital Marines, seiged a WarpGate like that once. We mind the crap outta the area surrounding the WG and watched as the lil purp dudes came crwling out, only to discover death. We held that place for the good part of an hour. Then some Drop podders hacked our tower...

Me and the rest of the good guys (TR) were attacking a Vanu held tower yesterday. I sh*t you not when I say there were at least 20 VS MAXs buzzing around. It was insane. Because they had about 6 AV MAXs, we couldn't bring even heavy troop transports close to it. This was on Konried, where we don't have a population glut, so it's even more odd.
It got me thinking... Why should you be able to get MAX armor from a little equipment terminal? I think it would make a lot more sense to have MAX stations that encase a soldier in the MAX armor. Further, I think these stations should only be available in bases. Using the spawn tubes, a determined force could teleport MAX suits to a tower for defense if needed, but as it stands now, it's just too easy to defend a tower. The situation with towers is long overdue for revision. With an endless supply of NTUs and the bugs surrounding movement on stairs, a defending force can hole up until the attacking force gets bored and departs. Boring people until they withdraw doesn't sound like the dev's intent.

once the lodestar and router come ingame we could just drop an ams and router on one of those faraway islands on some of the conts and attack anywere with out worry (cept for os's of course)
and all u have to do to stop os's is to park under trees

I also used to use Sunderer's to protect AMSes, especially when you can use the terrain for additional cover.
If you have 2+ Sunds working together, you could make a wall around the AMS with room for friendlies to maneuver in and out. Add in a wall of deployables like Veteran said and your position is extremely difficult to capture. I like all this strategy talk! |
