Question about names and outfits

One thing that concerns me about Planetside is the 'first come, first served' nature of names - i.e. you cannot choose a name that someone else already has. People who want specific names that have already gone will have to add numbers or underscores or use other ways to keep their name unique, which would look a bit crappy. Also, people like Hamma wouldn't be too chuffed if some kid stole their name before they registered. So i was wondering whether Outfit names will have an effect on this - i.e. being in DsV would mean that i could keep the name Joker as long as no one else in DsV is already called that, since my name would still be unique, even if another outfit had a member called Joker.

Another question is, would all four of your characters have to have different names, or could they all have the same name?

in the long run tho, it doesnt really matter what your name is, when people recognise you they will look out for the 7 tilders enxt to your name

i can almost guarentee you by the time i get it in aus my name will be taken 14 times over

One thing that may be nice would be to split the name pool up between servers, and even empires on each server instead of having a universal name pool. I dont know what the current system is, but this would cut down on the number of people with names like Bob574. It wouldnt matter if people had the same names on different servers although for empires it wouldnt be so great, but if there were people with the same name then everyone would know who it is depending on the empire.

Does anyone know, are the names chosen when you sign for Planetside, or when you make a character?

I bet you it is split up. You probably log in with your station id and then pick a server, then characters. There would be no reason a for a character name to be unique across servers.

there are so many names out there and more that you can make up that it shuldn't be hard to find a name. if you really want a name that badly and its already take then all i could say is, tough luck. go think of another name. anyway i htink that the first come first serve idea is. if people know its going to be like that then they will sign up quickly if they truly do want a specific name. the company makes more money very fast. also people will always be signing up so they will have even more money coming in. the first few months of a game are very crucial. you don't get it out there and no one will buy it.

I say just variate your name, or join a clan and put their tag infront of your name.

Nah W.A.M.S. isn't about banning it's about kicking ass and taking names of the repressed flamers and spammers that might eventually harm our friendly community.
