The reason I say this is mostly because of how simple it would be to put in the game. Say a tank rolls up to your AMS. Well, it runs over an EMP mine and cant shoot, while spawning troopers dispatch it. Say a lamer Surgile ejects over your tower expecting to use his exploits to own people, well, first he has to deal with all the EMP mines around him or he is fodder. Say a tank or other vehicle is rolling into or around a base, if it continuously cannot shoot, it is going to have to rethink its strategy. enterprising CEs could keep things propped up better this way as we all know defense is an issue.
Devs can take the regular mine model and properties, just paste the EMP grenade effect and graphic blast on it, supply it to the interface and inventories and walaah Last edited by Queensidecastle; 2004-01-11 at 10:50 AM. |

I put it there so you could add your two cents on EMP mines. I know *I* mentioned it.
MOST of the official forums are shit, but the developer-area is not. Like the In-Concept and Development-Discussion areas, have actually proved useful and I deemed them worthy of my time. |

emp mines sounds bad from a design perspective.
When you neutralize a vehicle, or anything for that matter, there has to be a reprocussion. Tight now, unless you throw a jammer out of a tree, off a wall, etc. I can pretty safely say hes going to try and run you over. Aside from that, it could easily be exploted and used to make "super mines". Emp + 4 boomers = super mine. It would insta-gib a tank and if you're in a Magrider, the only tank that has no breaks, you'de be pretty pissed off, not because you died, but you couldnt prevent it AT ALL. Theres a balance issue more than anything here. The TR would be super pissed because they'd be sitting ducks. 3 guys in the biggest, slowest tank stranded without gun is a LOT worse than 2 guys in a super fast tank or 2 guys in a super agile tank. A huge imbalance would be created and a lot of tank drivers for TR would cry (more so than usual). The only faction that this wouldnt be overly detrimental to would be the NC considering their armor and the speed of their tank. Although it sounds like a great idea, i dont think it would do the job as well as a simple jammer nade. On the other hand, if the EMP nade disabled movement and limited gunfire it would be a lot more balanced. The mag rider would lose the use of its front gun (due to inability to turn), the Vanguard, although strong, would be stranded with slower firing guns and the Prowler, because of 2 gunners, would be more balanced due to its size. Its all in the functionality of the EMP mine. As a regular jammer its pretty useless.

EMP mines would be pointless and a nusence. You would constantly stop with noone around to kill them. With it being a grenade you have to have someon there that can fire on them and cause some action an not just make them stop every two seconds cause oops we hit another EMP mine.

Actually, why can't we select EMP, Frag, plasma with our mines? I really don't see the problem with it. Would be like the thumper now, but with placed mines. It would actually require more thought on CE's part on how to lay the correct mine network. I also don't see this as a balance issue (we are talking common pool here). In fact, as a prowler driver, I would much rather see this, than the current mines. I wouldn't fear the other types as much.

I don't see any problem with EMP mines. Just make it so you can only deploy one every 15 or 20 meters so they don't destroy each other when they go off.

I dont line it because I dont think vehicle weaposn systems should be disrupted by EMP (and this is from the anti-vehicle guy)

EMP mines would pretty much make it impossible for any veichle to enter a base. sure, 1 won't make a difference but if they are as common as normal mines it's over. maybe tanks would be easier to deal with but think of the other guys, the ones driving lightnings or buggies?
