I would probably suggest renting before buying, or trying a friend's gun first.
But the major things you need are a marker(obviously), a tank, a hopper, barrel if you want a better one, paint, and a mask. I know I'm forgetting something because I haven't played in a long time, but you get the basic idea.

Tank = CO2 or Compressed Air tank. This is what is used to propell the paintballs at people. Hopper = "Clip" its more like a holder for your ammo. Filled manually. Gravity feed are the most common. Barrel = Uhh.. Barrel? There are flatliners that improver acuracy at the cost of reliability. Not recomended. Paint= ammo Mask= This is actually the one area n00bs in paintball phuck up. Get a good mast with some neck coverage, periferal vision, and anti fog glass. Dont get the ghili masks if you dont also have a ghili suit. Your ability to find your enemy is the number one skill. Not shooting, as paintball guns are worthless for acuracy. A few suggestions: Play in outdoor parks with atleast one freind. Playing paintball alone is not fun. Stratagy beats firepower in all scenarios except speed/hyper ball fields. When playing speedball fields just makesure that you and your gun dont stick out more then they have to. In woodland fields use hill crests or landscape as they are ok temporary cover, dont get pinned down in those though. ABOVE ALL: Have some balls if you get shot its a smidgant of pain and you get to play again in 5-10 min anyway. |

I'm just starting to get into it as well. It's fun most of the time. Anyway, my first gun is going to be a tippman A-5 (going to order it sometime today) with a new barrel and then other equipment.
I would reccomend renting a gun and going a few times before you blow 300+bucks. |

ur first gun should be a model 98,basic trust worthy gun.(120 or so bucks) then a C02 tank,20 oz is best bet(20-30 bucks),standard black hopper, holds the balls(2-4 bucks),Mask,i suggest a JT one for a good durable one(20-120 bucks) and some knock around pants and a long sleeve shirt/jacket and your set to go

I started with a Spyder Imagine, which is also a good starter gun. its also better then the tippmann, and it has an eletro frame. again, it always depends on how much you want to spend. spyder imagines cost less the 200 bucks, and a basic loader and Co2 you can buy for less then 30 bucks. I wouldnt worry about a mask right away, you can rent them anywhere you go, plus their not nessecary for a starter. make sure you have the starter marker for at least 6 months before you move up (autocockers, smart parts, etc.) my brothers new shocker 03 is a little tough for him, even though he had a spyder electra DX for about a year. |
