Observations, and questions....

After hanging around the forums for a few days, going into the chatroom and observering this game for a while, i noticed a few things.

I have yet to see someone talk about/write an article about a basilisk or fury. I'm guessing they arent popular. why? is it simply becuase certain vehicles are just better?

looking at them, they seem like a good anti infantry option, and skilled pilots should be able to swarm a tank with furies.... how well do they handle? is it easy to dodge shots on one?

can you get some airtime going over a small ridge, if you go fast enough?

how do their weapons stand up?

in many videos or reaver pilots, i see many opportunities to use rockets against enemy aircraft... can you fire them one at a time?

im joining emerald tr, for obvious reasons. they need some help. im going to make a vs character aswell, because their suits look VERY cool. on markov i might make an nc, as i like slow rate of fire big boom weapons. not using any heavy assault. EVER. only if i am heavily outnumbered.

please explain hotdropping in detail. also, in videos, wtaching people deploy from a galaxy, they look more like bombs.... also, can you drop like that at high altitude without damage? do vehicles take damage from high altitude hotdropping?

is the carbine(rifle/gl or rocklet) worth it? seems good to me...

it doesnt look like aircraft can do loops

can a lodestar carry more than one basilisk?

The Basilisk and Fury are somewhat popular, but in a highy limited and simplistic role. Because their armor is so weak, they aere only useful as light transport. As such, noone really feels a need to talk about them. The problem inherent in fighting with them is that youhave to always be moving at maximum speed to avoid shots, as one tank shell or short Reaver spam will kill you. Unfortunately, maneuvering at high speeds make it almost impossible to aim, so it's crap. And as to just plain swarming a tank, that's really hard to do when every shot a tank fires is a kill on one of you. You'd need an insane amount of Furies to even damage a tank heavily, and that's a terrible use of manpower.

Yes, you get airtime.

Their weapons, for the most part, suck. The dual 12mm's are crap, and the Furies' marginally powerful missiles are hampered by their tiny clip.

What you see as opportunities are not. It looks easy, but even hitting an enemy aircraft with your chainguns isn't easy, and hitting them with slow-moving rockets is almost impossible, except against Galaxies and, to some extent, Liberators. The chaingun is the only optimal air-to-air weapon.

Hotdropping is very simple. As soon as the aircraft you are in lifts off, whether you are piloting or riding along, you can press Alt-G. If you do, your character jumps out of the plane. The blue thing under you prevents you from taking any damage.

The Rocklet Rifle was good before the Devs decided to place a timer on the secondary fire. Now, it ain't so hot Some people still sware by it, but I don't like it much.

I don't think that the Lodestar can carry two Basilisks.

++forgot that they cant move the guns horizontally. thats too bad, really. would be quite fun if there was no recoil on it.. oh well. just thinking...

The ATV certification is optimal for infiltrators and Snipers like me that need quick transportation through mountains and across open areas and as a means of escape and moving to different areas in a much quicker fashion then walking.

You don't lose damage when hotdropping I believe, or if you do fairly minimal.

No, only one vehicle, no matter what the size, can go in a Lodestar.

Rocklet Rifle takes some skill but it is pretty good as AI and AV, AA is nearly impossible because the rockets are inaccurate.

And no, aircraft can't do loops *intentionally* but sometimes if you hit a tree you can flip over before you die.

My experience is that these vehicles are a joke. Use them as fast ground transport only... but for the 2 certs you are much better off with a Ground Support or Ground Transport certs to help out your team.

If you use ATV know that...

1 deci = death
1 mine = death
and any other vehicle with a gun mounted on it will own you...
and 2 hits from any AV weapon = death

Also, aiming your weapon requires you to drive towards your target... most of your aiming comes from you pointing your vehicle at the target... so that's hard enough and makes you very vulnerable to counter attack... a counter attack that you likely won't survive. It's a waste of time and cert points.

Oh and the wraith... the cloaking version is the only one worth a little... but when moving (the point of a vehicle) you are easily spotted... so again the word "joke" comes to mind.

i meant earlier that can a REAVER hit another aircraft easily with rockets. watching some videos there are times when the enemy was moving quite slow...

and can reavers fire one rocket at a time?

thanks for answering all those questions. its too bad about the basilisk....

Yes, aircraft can hit each other with rockets but it is not recommended. Save your rockets for foot soldiers. In the rare occasion that an aircraft is sitting still and doesn't see you, unleash your rockets to finish him off quick but almost always use your chainguns against other aircraft.

Yes you can fire one rocket at a time by just clicking once but most of the time you want to hold the mouse button down to spam the ground with the rockets.

Nope, it just doesn't work most of the time. If a Reaver or Mosquito is just sitting there, he can still reach about 100 kph in under a second, and easily evade your rockets.

They're not. The problem is that a burst of chaingun fire does more damage than a single rocket, but a burst of rockets does much moire damage than a burst of chaingun fire. Thus, given that you'd only be able to get off one rocket, the chainguns are better.

^^He's right. With over 4 month's experience as a pilot, use rocket's for infantry and sometimes ground vehicles only. Sometimes you can put a lead on an aircraft with rockets but it's not worth the effort. An advantage of the chain gun is that if you're aiming at the target, most likely you're gonna hit it. With rockets, most likely they'll go right past the target.
