What does adding people to your buddy list actaully do?

On PSU, it highlights their name at the bottom of the screen, in the "Who's Viewing This Forum" list. It might do something else, but that's all I'm aware of.

It makes you their BUDDY.

Nothing really you can have it open and refresh it any time to see how many of your buddies are on and you can put a check mark in the box besides their name (you can choose as many as you want) then scroll to the bottom and send them a PM with the "Send PM" button.
