My guitar teacher, who I deeply respected, has decided to move on to other things, he started grad school a few cities away and he can't run over to the music store on saturday mornings for 1 or two lessons.
I don't really wanna take lessons anymore, I think I'm good enough to stand on my own feet as a guitarist and start teaching myself. I'm better than most guitar players at my school, but I wanna be better. I know the following songs: Ariels In the End My December Chop Suey The first bit of Destroyer of Senses Seven Nation Army (but everyone knows that song, it's about the easiest popular song there is) Island in the Sun The Reason The Futurama into song Can anyone recommend some other songs to learn?

you cant play guitar until you can play stairway to heaven. I found out recently that a friend of mine (who has been playing guitar a few years) couldnt play stairway. I slapped him promptly. he didnt really appreciate it too much. |

Ah, so you've stopped taking lessons, good work. Lessons don't really help you unless you want to teach guitar too, you don't need to really know notes, tabs are easier.
Anyways, System of a Down has some hard songs, or songs which don't sound too good with only 1 guitarist from what I remember. If you're in to the old stuff, Zeppelin (namely Stairway, even Black Dog), and Pink Floyd might be good for you. If you're in to the newer stuff like me, Chilli Peppers, U2, some Incubus, OLP, Weezer, Blink 182 is easy if you like that stuff, and Sublime. Those are awesome bands to learn some music from and get better at guitar for ya.

I'd suggest listening to George Benson. He's a jazz player. Which still kicks ass in my book. As far as I'm concerned he "plays" the guitar and doesn't just mash cords together like some bands seem to do now a days.
