doubt anyone knows this for a fact but im open to all speculation.

say u make a mine field and some other guy from ur empire comes wondering around and triggers one of ur mines. do u get grief points for his stumbelings?

mines have IFF capability. IFF means identification friend or foe. So no, you won't get grief points for mine-killing your teammates.

Ahhh, hopefully mines dont do damage to faction-mates because this could go either way. you could purposly sabotage the team or you could accidentally blow him up...

but what if he shoots one he's standing next to? i wonder if they blow up when they get shot like in tribes
