Campus security and safety

Campus security and safety has lately been one of the most controversial issues in the Texas Education community. Certain unfortunate events that took place in Texas education campuses has raised awareness for better security for the students and faculty in Texas education campuses.

On Wednesday, September 27 2006, in Bailey, Colorado, a man held several female students hostage at gunpoint and killed one girl before killing himself. On Friday, September 29 2006, near Madison, Wisconsin, a principal was shot to death at school by a student. On October 06 2006, in Paradise, Pennsylvania, a man, targeting female students, apparently entered a school and shot three students to death before killing himself.

As the similarities between the incidents in Bailey, Colorado and Paradise, Pennsylvania demonstrate, acts of violence such as these have the potential to induce others to commit similar acts. The incidents imply that the law bearers and citizens must never let the guard down when it comes to the safety of the students in Texas Education campuses. Everyone must also be particularly vigilant during the times surrounding such incidents, when the potential for copycat acts is at its highest.

It is very important to make aware the school principals in Texas Education campuses about the need to take potential threats to student safety seriously. They must review the school district�s security procedures and encourage the faculty and students to immediately report any possible threats or suspicious behavior. Since these most recent incidents involved perpetrators entering campuses with weapons, the school authorities must also be urged to consider additional steps to ensure that weapons and unauthorized individuals are not entering the campuses.
