Did anyone ever play the game America's Army? The M-203 grenade had a timer on it so that it could only detonate after a certain range. Anyone agree that the SA weapons should have this? I think it would limit close quarter use. That is if you fire the grenade at the ground it just bounces and doesn't detonate. Basically a timer would count down and if it hits something before then it duds out. (It's normally a safety mechanism in rockets and grenades, but it seems like a nice gameplay thing).
The scorpion has a similar system where it'll bounce and not detonate if it's used wrong. |

This might work for the primary fire mode however using PS1 as an example, secondary firing mode on the grenades are designed to contact objects (such as a wall) so you'd have to disable the "dud" feature for certain modes of fire.
Assuming that PS2 weapons even operate the same. |

I'm all for a SA dead-zone if only to save my squad from those moments where you launch right as someone steps into your line of fire.
The question I have is if you would want it like BF where those duds can still kill people? Sometimes, for fun, I'd go on killing sprees with smoke grenades. Pop a guy and his friend then escape in the cloud. edit: I'm thinking no. I wouldn't mind it doing damage but I feel the same way here that I do about sniping. Find a niche and make the tools fit it but not others. Last edited by exLupo; 2011-08-14 at 03:37 AM. |

Duds should hurt. Its still a rather large projectile moving pretty damned fast.
SA behavior I would like to see: Thumper: Fire mode 1: Contact fuse, duds if it hits within, say, 10m. Maybe 20m. Depends on how useful you want that mode to be indoors vs being used outdoors as indirect fire. Fire mode 2: Timed fuse. Explodes after 3s. Does not explode on contact with anything, enemies included. Rocklet Rifle: Fire mode 1: Contact fuse that arms in 10-20m, as per thumper. Fire mode 2: Range fuse. Behaves like the scorpion did, only without the silly extra projectiles that spawn, just a normal damage radius. Also explodes in proximity to aircraft, providing for flaklet functionality(Just pretend it has a little auto range finder for vehicles). Emulates the behavior of modern weapons such as the XM-25. Wouldn't much mind if it looked like that either. |
