Not to mention Gauss rifle is still a combustion based rifle, it's just gauss technology boosting the projectile. This was even said in it's description in the original Planetside.

Magnetically accelerated projectiles tend to travel so fast they generate a highly visible trail behind them, so that kinda does make a flash suppressor sorta pointless anyway. I'm assuming they are removing the trail for game play balance thus the inclusion of the flash suppressors for gauss rifles.

Railgun =/= Gauss gun, I always saw it as having coils that pulsed to accelerate the projectile in addition to normal propellants.

Yeah gauss gun is coils, rail gun is a sliding contact.
