how much is Too much for 1 weapon?

Going over the GDC video i noticed that the prices they had for weapons ranged from 100 Station gold to 650 Station Gold; which works out to $1 - $6.50 for a weapon. I know its alpha and obviously its a work in progress proven by the placeholder for some of the weapons but they have clearly already have a slight idea of pricing structure.

I know you can get everything unlocked my getting tens of thousands of the other currency they had listed. But was wondering what your personal opinion on what would be asking too much for One Weapon. $6.50 seems fair for the better weapons they had listed but once it starts getting closer to $10 im not too sure how that'd sit with me.

Well, be happy it isn't like in APB, where the "bit better" weapons are 50-60€ if you want to buy them permanent lol.

The prices probably arnt finalised, but I dont think anything below 10usd is much of an issue, at least for me when I come from APB lol.

Higby addressed this on reddit, absolutely everything in the shop is just for show.

Like Coreldan said ... as long as it's not $30-50 for a single weapon, I'm happy. APB (and many other F2P games) have absolutely insane pricing models.

I hope PS2 realizes that a gun priced at $10 will sell 100 times more than a gun priced at $50. Less cost is more money for them ...

Well, G1 has been in the F2P business for over 10 years and they say they got the statistics to back it up that their model is more profitable for them.

Certainly not "gamers first", but still. I sorta believe them if they say that, cos lets face it, they've been in F2P business longer than just about anyone else and they arnt outright stupid, if they could make more money with some other way, they probably would do it.

That said, I'm not sure how attractive model it is for SOE to go "player friendly with a little less revenue", that probably the 10usd model is compared to the 50usd model. However, customer happiness is a major thing, I'm fairly sure G1 has lost a lot of customers and players due to the.. a bit cash hungry nature.

To my understanding LoL players are mostly very satisfied with the payment model. While G1 makes similar amount/more revenue, but I'd go as far as to claim that LoL players are happier with the management than G1 games players.

G1 can claim whatever they want...
None of their games have been "AAA" quality like PS2 will. So them claiming their model is the best might be true for a "B" class game such as APB (which I happen to love). APB is fun on it's own, but MUCH MORE FUN with a $50 weapon that kills foes through intimidation via gold logo (even though we all know it's not THAT much better).

A game like PlanetSide where there is no "pay to win" (as, is the case in APB) will certainly benefit more from more moderately priced items.

Furthermore, I bet SOE makes 10 times the money G1 has made in the past ten years in the first 6 months of PlanetSide 2's release date ...

And I do agree. I personally think that the customer happiness in the long term is a bit more important than getting a tad more revenue. A game that has a happy playerbase also markets itself easily via word of mouth.

I don't think I've EVER heard anyone complain about LoLs payment model, I don't think I've ever really heard anyone compliment APBs payment model (except perhaps at least the lack of any true pay2win, but that should be default)

True and true. A happy playerbase generally ='s less revenue per player but more players total.

The APB community is pretty much pissed off all the time; which makes it annoying to play at times. I believe much due to the payment model. Hopefully PS2's community will be less hateful....

Also they are not better weapons ... they are different or accelerated unlocks.

In terms of pricing perhaps it's better to compare in terms of a monthly sub.

Everything Extra credits does is totally awesome and should be shown to all politicians.

My wife took a few ideas from one of their videos about classroom participation and it has helped her as a teacher who works in a "bad school".

Wow, yeah, that video was great. I found myself agreeing with everything stated in it. Hope the PS2 devs and SOE have considered their implementation of microtransactions in such a way that addresses those points.
