Hi there.

I'm french, usually an rpg enthusiast. I had never heard of Planetside before, and got interested when I stumbled accidentally on Totalbiscuit's videos.

I hope to find here some answers about Planetside 2, particularly concerning the monetary system.

Best place to start looking for answers is the New Player Question section of the forums.

Also, regarding the monetary system, this game will be Free2Play, meaning you won't have to buy a box and you won't have to pay for a subscription to play. The game will feature a shop, and you can find out what types of items it will and will not contain below.

You wont be able to unlock a gameplay affecting item exclusively for Station Cash, there will be an in-game acquisition path as well, you're just bypassing (or shortcutting) it by using Station Cash.

Additionally, none of our item sidegrades really give a discrete power advantage, and those items which do (such as grenades, etc) are available exclusively for in-game resources. So, while you can unlock different playstyle choices with Station Cash, you're not really buying an advantage overall, you're just unlocking different situational breadth.

Thanks Dale, but in fact, I'm kinda worried about the "premium membership" thing Higby mentioned recently. I'm ok with spending some € on "play-style items", mainly to support the devs, as the game will surely be stunning. It will certainly be free-to-play, but I suspect it won't be free-to-enjoy.
So, if enjoying it imply to let go 5 or 6 €, fair enough; but more money or some kind of monthly subscription would be disappointing.

Well, it's hard to talk about the "premium membership" (and the whole PS2 marketplace for that matter) since the details about it hasn't been finalized at this point. We can only hope that they stick to their game plan, and that the subscription only includes things similar to what is said to be offered on the marketplace. If not, and they include things that gives you advantage over others, it would surely be disappointing. But that is something only time will tell.

Hi there Griff! I would not be to worried about anything until we see it for ourselves. Just remember that Higby has staunchly stated power will not be sold and a 5 year vet will never have the complete edge over a new player.
