Lightbulb A warship to replace 'Galaxy Gunship'

We've inspired the developers so much. Lets define a gunship again in PlanetSide 2. PlanetSide1's Galaxy Gunship should remain that way - PlanetSide1's item.

Lets be clear that Galaxy has always been a transports ship. A vehicle of logistics. By strapping heavy weapons onto it deviates from its logistics purpose, it malforms its identity and its purpose!
  • Galaxy: Logistic
  • Reav/Scy/Mos: Combat (tactical & self-defended)
  • new gunship/warship: Attack (little self-defence)

Let's not have a 'Galaxy Gunship'.
Let's replace with new distinct vehicle!

I agree that the Galaxy should remain as a support role vehicle rather than being able to get customized into a gunship...but maybe we don't need a new Gunship with the new and improved Liberator.

A separate vehicle for that same purpose? No reason to be shy and say no for a new vehicle.

'We should be wantsing its!'

The Galaxy Gunship serves the logistical role of delivering mass quantities of ass-kickery to the enemy on the ground.

Its fine with its purpose, its a perfect logistical deviation.

I think the Galaxy Gunship is fine as it is. Because the Galaxy can be configured to have more armaments than a standard Galaxy means that it could potentially fulfill two roles instead of just one. I'd imagine a Galaxy Gunship dropping maybe 2-4 infiltrators off to hack a facility, whilst the Galaxy gunship provides fire support during the hack.

The trade off for this is that the galaxy cannot drop as many troops off at once, meaning the invading force is no where near as powerful as a fully loaded galaxy, but because Galaxy's are spawn locations now, means they can still be used tactically.

Why not *cough* the Liberator, which already seems to have elements of this gunship role?

I like the idea of "warships" or "airships" as an end-game element. The game doesn't lend itself to an end-game in the conventional sense, but the airship is an example of something guilds or outfits could work towards to flex their collective might. Something they dump a weeks worth of resources into and defend furiously over the span of a day or so before it finally draws too much attention and gets popped, and the 72-hour countdown begins for the next airship spawn.

That said, as far as vehicles that any individual could spawn, I think the job of heavy bombardment belongs to the Liberator. If you make the Galaxy as effective at air to ground combat or create a third vehicle for the roll, you risk trivializing the existence of vehicle(s) already dedicated to the roll. "Its faster" isn't enough of a reason to have something like the Liberator around in that scenario, in my opinion.

I'd rather see the galaxy gunship return.

It makes sense and should be kept imo because this type of conversion has a basis irl (I assume that is why the community wanted it back in PS1). The C-130 is to the AC-130 what the galaxy transport is to the galaxy gunship.

Imo they should make the galaxy gunship a full conversion option pretty far up the certification ladder. It should remove all passenger positions and replace them with gunners for the weapons. But that is just me

Uhh why can't we have both? What if post release in addition to the gal gunship every faction got their own specific gunship vehicle?
