By the way the game looks, I would say that if you can run BF3 you should be able to run this.

I think the difference is that the original engine was borrowed for PS1 and probably was adapted for the scale of the game, it sounds like the engine for PS2 was built purposely for the scale of PS2 so it's starting performance should be much better than the beginning of PS1.

A 8800GTX is almost 6 years old, I don't think you can expect to run this game well with that card.

Maybe you'd be able to play but decreasing the viewable range to 20 meters...

In my experience many of the advanced video settings in games disadvantage players, not the other way around.

Fog/Dust/Cloud Cover, in past games as examples with these removed you usually had an advantage over someone dealing with them.

My desktop is a dual core 3.2ghz, 6gb ram with a 1gb NVIDIA gpu. So far I haven't had any issues running BF3, Arkham City, Skyrim, etc, etc.

I can run these games on high or mixed med-high graphic settings, no probs.

The original Planetside literally taught me how to optimize and upgrade my computer. I didn't even know how to switch out RAM. Now I've swapped out every part of my computer a few times over and OC'd my CPU. I fully expect to use that knowledge for the sequel.

I believe it was the TB that said that the game will be largely compatible for a wide variety of machines, with a deep video customization. So if they can play BF3 they can play PS2

Are core 2 duo's really the norm for gamers? THey are 4+ years old, i thought the normal upgrade cycle was around 2 years. I switched up my core 2 duo about a year ago to a core 2 quad (best i could do without changing the mobo as well) because windows 7 64 simply does not work properly with core 2 duo cpus. I know I will be looking at a £400 graphics card update when ps2 finally releases cos i dont expect my gtx 285 to handle it, but again. thats like 3 years old.. i thought i was behind the times...

Yea i was made redundant twice. Didn't stop me being able to spend £150 on an upgrade once in 3-4 years (IE £4 put aside for each month). Not only that but the cost of pc components have come down a great deal. It costs me £50 to add an extra 8gb of DDR3 ram last month, when i got the original 4gb this thing had it cost me nearly £200.

I suspect the real reason why the upgrade cycle might have slowed down, is because games are being made for the consoles primarily. Its the one favour I think they've done for pc gaming, forcing devs to squeeze the most of the hardware because they cant exect their target audience to keep upgrading anymore.
