Lightning upgrade: MRSI artillery turret

Hey guy I was thinking today about MRSI (Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact)

I was thinking that the lightning already shoots 3 rounds, why not make it so you can lock the turret after selecting an area you want to fire upon, select the elevation and fire 3 rounds in rapid succession and have the turret move down for the MRSI effect.

What do you guys think, YAY or NAY

Artillery has been endlessly endlessly endlessly discussed on these forums. Come now.

Sounds better on paper than it does in practice.

i think that the idea has merit, as does most things. i also think after the game has launched, theres no reason SOE cant create a beta enviroment where they can implement ideas and allow a sizeable playerbase to test. this would weed out poor ideas (BFR's possibly mossie changes) while picking up some solid ones.

Couldn't you just move the barrel from high to low in such a way that all the rounds hit at the same(ish) time anyway?

@Turdicus

Yes, but the range is quite pronounced. For manually doing this, with the interface at hand, you wouldn't be able to see what you're aiming at with the first shot, second shot would be somewhat better, last shot would be aimed. In other words, technically, yes, practically, no way in hell are you apt to hit anything, regardless of circumstances, with the first two shots In-RL, the space of fire is very short between rounds, and an individual is not reasonably able to achieve the speed + precision needed to do this.

If they implemented laser targeting pointers for Infil's in combination with either Lightnings or some other ground vehicle, probably something slower and heavier, that are capable of using that laser targeting information. Keep the Infil in the same Platoon as the Arty and give the Arty a lot of recoil against aiming properly and it would work, imo.

However with the low TTK I'm not sold on even having Arty in the game as it stands now.

I mean the only use I see it that doesn't completely make Arty OP (lots of stuff is outdoors now) is against base defenses and honestly Infils could just Sabo the generator for that instead.

would be a cool idea. seen multiple tanks do this irl and it is not just awesome looking but devastating on a target. not sure how they would implement this in game but it would a nice idea to work on. i can see 4-5 lightnings lining up now ready for a target maybe from an infiltrate spotter.

I saw the Sunderer get a Rocket Pod weapon-grade thing in one of the streams. Neat.

That's like giving a sniper rifle a free never miss headshot on the skillbar.

Hit 3 on skillbar, get a free headshot, 20 second cooldown.

Seriously.

It rewards teamwork. not even close to the same as sniping.

It's more like a skillbar with cooldown abilities.

Person A gets into position/places beacon/etc.

Person B spawns in and guides droppod to either destroy a high value target or to deploy on the surface.

Enemy A (High Value target) has to opportunity to unwittingly make Person B's job harder by simply strafing around his target or by practicing any form of movement. Enemy A can also destroy the pod mid-drop and prevent the whole scenario. Enemies B-Z can also destroy the pod mid drop.

Both Person B and A are vunerable in executing this tactic and both exercise teamwork. This *active* teamwork is a magnitude above any skill or value of whatever target is destroyed is exercising.

Any further discussion of this without recognition of these facts will be ignored.

Seriously.
It would be if it were locking the turret onto an enemy. Locking onto a spot on the ground or a wall however, would be different.
